I've done lots of reading on this forum over the years. Really appreciate the wealth of knowledge you all have shared. Finally have things in order where I can look into beginning my own garage transformation.

We bought our home 14 years ago. At that time, both the house and garage were in fairly rough shape. We went right to work by having new roof and siding done on both buildings. I gussied up front of the garage to make it look more like a house and less like a garage. That work was completed quickly, and we've spent the last several years working on the inside of the house. Over those years though, I've realized the garage, while nearly 3000 square feet, is not a good work space. It's a great storage building for "stuff" but that's about it.

The garage is 48 feet wide, 60 feet deep, and is currently divided into 5 distinct rooms/areas. There is also a semi-finished 2-bedroom suite upstairs. Walls in place but no utilities. It was like that when we bought it, and has remained unchanged since. The overhead garage door is only 6-1/2' tall, and first floor ceiling height only 7 feet. No way I can put a lift in. No way I can get a lifted truck inside (my stock 4x4 truck has abut 1/4" roof clearance going in the door). It's just not set up as a shop, and it's time to address that.

The bottom 8 feet of the perimeter walls is block construction. I'd like to remove everything above the block, remove all of the inside walls, and then rebuild from there. Build the side walls up to 16' and install new trusses. Add two 16 wide x 8 high overhead doors, then get to work on outfitting the inside. Lots of details to hammer out, and I'm always looking for suggestions.

Current garage pics. You can see there have been several additions over the years.

Welcome to GJ. Nice looking garage but it does look added on and slightly cobbled together.

You have a big undertaking ahead of you. Make sure to take plenty of pictures.
