Try looking at Sunnex. I have all SO for every thing, but only run into lg size hardware 1-2 week. Have had combo and angle wrenches up to 2 1/2 for 12yrs. Price was right, have held up well even in commercial enviroment.

The farmr should go to the nearest case IH dealer and buy there brand made by bluepoint 1" - 2" 175$ and another no tax write off for him.

If that's true I'd be very interested. I kind of find it hard to believe I can get anything from local Case IH dealer for $175 though. Got a part number or anything for the set?

Any reason they won't fit the bill?

I bought some HF jumbo wrenches which have worked well. But latter I had to fill in some missing sizes like a 36mm, and northern tool had them. Man I wished I bought the Northern before the HF because the fit and finish was much nicer. I may consider changing out the HF pieces latter with the northern stuff....

I do know a tractor mechanic that still uses the HF jumbo wrenches with good luck....

IMHO, Northern wrenches are nothing like the HF Pittsburgh wrenches. Northern wrenches are made by Danaher, have surface drive box ends (same as Gearwrench) and are much higher quality then HF's Pittsburgh wrenches.
IMO they are more comparable to the new Gearwrench non-ratcheting wrenches then Pittsburgh.

Looks like those Northern Tools wrenches are a better deal than the comparable Sunnex wrenches in the jumbo standard sizes. $50 bucks for combo wrenches of that size is a good deal! Almost $100 bucks for a similar Sunnex jumbo set.

The Sunnex jumbo wrench set:

I checked the store locations and it looks like the only store that Northern Tool has near the OP farmer is in Iowa.

Having worked on tractors and farm equipment in my youth, I know firsthand that sometimes you must have a really BIG wrench (and some grunt and leverage) to get-er-done.

How many of us is this going to realistically apply to?

Actually that is not an unusual situation. Depending on the equipment, one thing going down can park an entire company.

Slightly different situation but at my old work if my servers went down for example, it was $250,000 a day in lost work...

Similar situation at my current work, If the lights got out in a power outage, we could lose up to 11K per hour in sales...

You have to look at the overall impact, and how key the item is....

I have wrights up to 2-1/2 and while they are pricey I needed them now and did not have time to piece together on ebay. Sure the imports may be cheaper but A. I like the feel of the wrights better then anything else and B. I do enough work in the upper spectrum of sizes I can make them pay for themselves. With that being said I would seriously encourage you to try and piece a wright set together off Ebay, you will not be disappointed. Now I am trying to find a set of Proto Crowfoot all the way up to 2-1/2 that wont break the bank.

When I first started working at Hewlett Packard, I repaired an automated assembly line for ink jet cartridges. The production line ran 24x7-365 days a year. At an profit of $11 every 1 second, downtime was just about $40,000/hour. :shocking: Yes, we had Snap-On tools and many, many spare parts. For downtimes more than 15 minutes, we had all sort of people watching over your shoulder.
