I bought a Schumacher jump start battery pack from a pawn shop today for cheap because they said it doesn’t hold a charge.

I turned the switch to on and it lights up green, then I push the internal battery status button but that doesn’t light up at all.

Does that mean the battery is definitely junk or could a recharge possibly bring it back?

What I have found is that the replacement battery is pretty close in price to a new jump pack. I'm on my third one and just buy new ones when they die.

I was able to get a new battery with free shipping from Amazon, delivered to Alaska, for about half the price of a new pack; $45 for the battery, $90ish for the pack it went into. Keep your eyes open for a battery, deals do pop up.

The back up battery in my home security alarm system got to the point that it would only last 20 minutes. 8 years old.
Batteries and Bulbs, a franchise, not only sells what they say they sell, but also rebuilds battery packs for cordless tools, etc. They rebuilt my alarm battery pack with better than stock cells and had it back in my hands in a couple of hours for less $$ than a new battery.

We actually have one of those near me, I’ll see what they can do.

Another question.
Just for fun I decided to plug it in to see what would happen. The light is lit up saying it’s charging. When I push the battery level button it says fully charged.

Does that still confirm it’s the battery?

Edited. Now the green charging light is showing red and the battery status when I unplugged it says needs recharged.

If ain't putting out enough power to be jumpin' sumptin'...its the battery.

Plus if the light is changing quick when you unplug it its loosing any charge.

These things really aren't rocket science

Though there could always be a slim chance the charger part isn't charging it in this case probably not likely

Remove the battery (gonna to do that anyway to replace it) and charge it with reg battery charger if you like to and/or take readings with a voltmeter

Thanks. I figured but just wanted to make sure there wasn’t anything else wrong on top of the battery.

I bought a new one. Jump start probably about 10~20 times, then the battery is toast.
You'd need to replace it.
Inside is a SLA battery, they aren't meant for long term duty starting a car.
