Junction Box in Attic

I went over to help the neighbor replace a Garage Ceiling Fan today. I ended up crawling in his attic to re-secure the box. I noticed that the wire for for the Garage Door Opener was junctioned in a metal box to extend the wire length up there. Is this acceptable as the box is not buried in a wall?
I do know it was over 130F so I didn't spend a lot of time poking around up there!

as long as the box is accessible, it's fine ( where I'm from anyway )

This is an acceptable practice in my area too.

Yes, I considered it acceptable as its mounted on a Truss support, not laying on the Insulation.
