Just got off the phone with HP. My son's laptop got sent back for the 5th time. Luckily we purchased an extended warranty, LOL! Well this time the laptop was sent back because the wireless card was not working, third time this has happened. Word today is the laptop has extensive water damage and the warranty is null and void. It will cost $700 to repair the laptop. Funny thing is the laptop was working fine, just couldnt get the wireless to work, and the laptop has not suffered any water damage. My feelings are this is HP's way of not fixing a lemon laptop. Just want to vent and let you know HP's warranty is not worth the paper it is written on. Beware. I bought a cheap $300. Acer and never had a problem in 5 years.

Don't care much for hp/compaq myself. I love their monitors though, really bright and clear...

The laptop monitor is very nice but the rest of it *****. My waranty is no longer any good.I think its there way of saying they don't want to fix it anymore.Shipping it back and forth cost them money. one would think after 5 times in 2 1/2 years they would consider it a lemon. In this economy you would think they would want happy customers.

Had a similar experience with a mediasmart home server. It crashed, I changed the drives and they said I voided with warranty when I changed the drives... The instructions tell you how to do it. They would not replace the drives or more importantly help me get my data back off of them.

HP is the reason the family has an iMac at home and I'm typing on a macbook right now.

Mac's are expensive, but proven and reliable.

I have Acers. The problem is the hinges, and I contacted the BBB to force them to sell me hinges. It was a ridiculous affair.

I only buy Dell and Pansonic tough books.Never had an issue with any of them. That panasonic went through hell in my tool truck with all the vibration that went through it and never skipped a beat.

HP is my printers of choice though.Reasonable to purchse and also never had any issues with them.

I love my Mac as well, but they are far from being a sure thing. Notebooks are some of the most intensive design and engineering projects, and some models are just duds.

I currently own an HP and a Macbook, and had a Compaq before that which is still going strong for my mother--they've all performed very well.

Apple has had their share of design and quality control issues as well as customer service problems. The first generation Macbook air's are having hinge issues, and there have been numerous issues with various Apple notebooks over the years.

If you have an Apple store near you, I have to say the customer service is outstanding.

I'm not saying that most of there products is not quality. After sending my laptop back 5 times in a little over 2 years mine is not a good product. I bought it directly from them with the extended 184.00 waranty. Now they say it has extensive water damage my waranty is void and they aren't going to fix it anymore. They said they would fix it for $700. which is just less than 1/2 of the price of a new one. I am not going to put that into this one. I just want to let everybody now how they treat there customers.

Original poster. Feel free to PM me for a phone number. I have information for you. FIRST, ask for your case to be escallated to a Case Manager. I was also told of water damage. I got it reversed and fixed free. It did take three times. I had a GREAT case manager. A southerner in Atlanta. We talked daily through the process.

Mine has never had a major malfunction and I use it daily at work.

If it does they are very serviceable and the service manuals are right on the web site.

+1 on the Mac. I gave all my PC's and Windows based notebooks to charity organizations and tossed everything remotely "wired" in the house. MacBooks and wireless access to the Mac Time Capsule have been great. Life is simple again

I have purchased over a dozen HP computers and many HP printers over the past ten years. Been happy with all of them. Except for a TX 1320 notebook. The internal wireless card stopped functioning. And being only FIVE DAYS past their ONE year warrantee period,, HP wouldn’t stand behind their product. Rather than purchase a new mother board for $300.00, I opted to use an external wireless adapter. Six months later,, the USB plugs dies rendering the card and most of the laptop useless. Today I hard wired it using a Cat 5 wire to get on the Internet.

What really irks me is that HP has a number of laptop computer with malfunctioning wireless problems. And I understand that HP covers them outside of their normal warrantee period. Unfortunately the TX 1320 is not one of these models... Because HP has not being the last bit flexible on the FIVE days, my last two laptop purchases have been Acers!

Over the four years I have purchased three Mac’s at the insistence of my children,, gifts to them. Their repair rate has been even worse than my HP’s. With their higher initial investment, I would rather purchase three HP’s... Really,, other than this TX 1320, all the rest have been trouble free!

IBM Thinkpad's for me (now Lenovo Thinkpad) as they purchased IBM's desktop/laptop division a few years back.

Im on my 5th Thinkpad (I upgrade every few years), I've never had 1 problem within the last 10+years of owning these things.
