Just a 2-car

Hey guys,

I'm moving from a 1-car to a 2-car. It's not big, but I'm going to make the most of it. I move in next month. Thess pictures are from the model from my tract. I hope to pick up lots of good info from this site.

The first order of business is a new U-Coat-It floor, then cabinetry. I'm thinking of red cabinets. Anyone here using red cabinets? I'd like to see what they look like.

Lots of potential there. Looks like you have some good storage space above the garage doors. I don't know that I've seen "red" cabinets. However, anything can be painted. Are you going w/ the standard U-coat it color or are you going to mix up some red into the floor as wel? Are you leaving the walls completely white?

Hey Tony, Congratulations on the upgrade to a 2 car garage. I'm moving into a new house in about 5 weeks also. The garage looks similar to yours (two car with the support beam running across the ceiling in the middle). Keep us updated on your progress.

Not to bring negative to your new purchase but I wonder why the doors have low headroom tracks? Seems unnecessary, looks like there is a good amount of room between the door opener and the beam. Those tracks bring the door straight back and almost leave the door lower than the opening. If you have any kind of SUV the back hatch will llikely hit the door when you open it. Might never be a problem but to some it is just thought I would point it out. I know you said this is a model and yours might not be this way.

Not really cabinets in the standard form, but here is a sample of my esisting garage with a red theme. The new addition will have "regular" cabinets in the same red/white design.

The tracks are probably the way they are because high lift setups, in general, cost more. Probably not something the builder puts in his homes by default.

Looks like a nice space. A little shallow, but clean and ready to go.

That waterheater vent (I assume that's what that is) would drive me nuts. No offense, but it looks pretty crazy looking. Hopefully your home won't have that vent running in the garage like this one is.

Those are actually double track low headroom setups. There is one track on top of the other to bring the door straight back. It costs more than a standard setup just like high lift tracks. It is made for low basement type ceilings. Just strikes me as odd because there is room for standard tracks that go up before it comes back.

I didn't realize that. Maybe the builder had a set of these tracks lying around? Who knows...

Unfortunately those are the standard doors and tracks. I'm just glad the insulated doors are standard. Luckily my wife drives a Passat and I drive a 68 Camaro.

BMW, That water heater vent already drives me crazy and I have not moved in yet. I'm sure mine will be the same as the model. I'll be changing it as soon as possible.

Looks like it comes with the "required" ONE outlet on the wall too. Good thing the panel box is there so you can run some more! Might want to see if you can get some pulled before they put up the dry wall.

Somebody posted some pictures of their garage quite a while ago. They used the stock IKEA Akurum cabinets with gloss red Abstrakt doors and side panels. It looked VERY sleek. I tried to find that thread but didn't have any luck. Does anybody here remember that thread? Perhaps they can help locate it.

The box stock house has one outlet and two lights in the ceiling.

They wouldn't let me run my own electrical before the sheetrock went up...so I was forced to pay them to run 6 more outlets with dedicated circuits for a few. I also had them add internet, intercom, sound, and cable while they were at it. Like you mentioned, it's lucky the panel is in the garage. I'm going to run 220 from it. They didn't "offer" that upgrade.
