It's a two-stage pump and the flow numbers don't drop off until much higher pressures.
If it was a single-stage pump, then yes, they wouldn't make sense.

The difference is more like $400 when you factor in Lowe's having 10% off coupons + 10% off for Veterans plus liftgate shipping costs not being real high.
HF website doesn't seem to be offering any delivery at all right now for some reason.
Nor does it seem like this compressor ever goes on sale?
The weekly 20% or 25% off coupons won't work on compressors.
~4CFM higher rating and more amperage from the HF could be worth $400 to a lot of folks I suppose.
Was just hoping some people here might know about the Kobalt and offer some well guided opinions.

The Kobalt is a good value for the money.
60 gal tank is a good reserve buffer volume, so you get that.
If a guy needs to limit to that price range it may be a good choice.

I should have gone the HF or Cobalt route. I am currently renting my house and didn't want a big noisy compressor in the garage. So after I heard my friends Quincy 26 Gal inside his garage I was sold. You can literally stand next to it and have a normal conversation.
Now, though, I'm not sure I made the right choice.
I would bet that these 60 Gal units take up just about the same floor space.
And despite the claimed 7.4 CFM @ 90 rating on the $800 Quincy I can't use a die grinder for more than 20 seconds on a full tank. And if I keep running the grinder it will run the motor forever and the grinder just keep running slower and slower. And just forget about the sand blaster.

Stories like this is what scares me into trying to figure out how to get my budget up to ~$1K for an entry-level do-it-all compressor.
But Man, I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild, engine-bay repainting, etc. etc. and EVERYTHING costs $$.

It's handled all of the needs I've had and the price isn't going to kill you. Unless you've got multiple people running tools at the same time it would probably fit the bill for 80% of users on this forum. It's also much quieter than the horizontal entry-level Craftsman compressor I had prior.

I paid $652 delivered to my local HF store for my compressor.....15.6 cfm at 90 psi 2 stage pump sold me, that and the USA made parts.
My only complaint is that it's a little louder than I expected, but my plan is to move it to a shed outside the shop soon.
Seems to work just fine.
I may look at doing what some of the YouTube vids show to help quiet it down a bit.

Looks like these are extinct - gone from the HF website now. I had been looking forward to putting one in my new shop as soon as I recovered from the blow the pandemic dealt my business earlier this year - but they appear to be discontinued.

I was in the local HF about 3 weeks ago and they had one on the floor. Marked clearance and $749. This was during the few days when they last had the coupon for 10 or 15 percent off everything including compressors and toolboxes. Would've been well under $700 with the coupon. Good deal for sure but I didn't need another compressor.
Seems odd they've dropped it from their lineup. I always assumed it was a good seller.

Are you talking about the pipe thread (NPT) reducing bushing that is threaded into the tank outlet? They are commonly available, just search for your pipe sizes such as 2" male to 3/4" female. Good luck getting the existing bushing loose from the tank!
