Bought this toolbox & sidebox yesterday for $50. I know the top is Craftsman & the bottom is Stack-On, where are the years stamped on these?

So I got to the guys house and he also gave me a cardboard box & said there's a few things in there & when we got the stuff back to my garage, the cardboard box was filled with tons of screw drivers & wrenches some from the 20's, 30's & 40's. some Vulcan,Snap-On,Bluepoint,Matco,Stanley,Yamaha & Proto, then I took one of the drawers out & there were more screw drivers & a old proto ratchet. In the drawers there were some torx bits & a old set of Craftsman 1/4 sockets & some Allen keys & drill bits.

That craftsman looks to be 70s issue. Should find the date stamp in one of the drawers. I own a similiar vintage the stamp on mine is in the upper left hand drawer. No clue on the bottom box.

I've only seen labels inside of drawers. With the age and condition of those boxes I wouldn't be surprised if the model/ date code labels are missing

I know for a fact the craftsman boxes are stamped, just don't know where to look.

What do you mean condition? The bottom is like brand new & the top is just dirty.

I had an old craftsman box like that too. Mine was a 1971, found the date on the top left side of the open part.

No offense- just looked like they were well used in the picture- thought it might be difficult to find the date code

Yeah I'm gonna have to scrub them down & take pics, I'll probably end up selling the bottom & I'm keeping the side box for my Snap-On box, not sure what I'm gonna do with the Craftsman top, I really just wanted to learn more about the bottom box & figure out what years the boxes are from.

The top box is my favorite Cman design. It's the one I grew up with my dad having. I'll steal his, too, when he no longer needs it. I've bought an excellent one for myself.

In my research for the dates I've learned to look inside. Mostly, you'll find the date stamped inside the top compartment in the lower left corner. However, others have reported different. Though, all have commented on finding the info inside the box. Be sure to look under drawers and such, too.

As far as the bottom box goes, I'm sorry, I'm no help. Those aren't in my wheelhouse.

I can tell you that MSRP (not sure if they used that term back then) was $57.87 for your top box when new. That's roughly $268 in today's money!

Its a 1974, I ended up finding the date, just shined the light in there & there it was covered in dust & tiny chipmunk turds, the top is actually coming clean pretty good. Still would like to know about the bottom box tho

I don't know much about Stack On other than they were lesser expensive than Craftsman. They were geared toward homeowners. A little digging and I see that as a company they've been around since 72. So that box (especially judging by the handle/pull) it's a mid to late 70s.

Sorry, I don't know much else. I've never been into them.
