Other forums I am on seem to discourage commercial postings as it is being generated by "sales" people and we all know most will tell you exactly what they think to distribute their product. I understood forums to be from actual independent users and their experiences sharing their unbiased opinions. I am sure a knowledgeable insight is appreciated but how do you make a logical decision when 2 sales people are steering you towards their product that don't identically match.

I have no problem with sales guys on here. I know they pitch their stuff, but at least on a public forum with the vast amount of knowledge (and unfounded opinion) available, if a salesman is blowing smoke, he's going to called on it.

You see the flooring guys go at it on here from time to time. . . one guys sells product, the other sells product and service. The service guys always ranting about how this isn't DIY stuff (why he comes on a majority DIY forum, I'll never know) and the product only guy is always saying how you can figure it out on your own. I really appreciate the two points of view.

It's no worse than having to wade through the BS that comes with every question on here. 10 pages of useless, uninformed opinion with 3 posts that matter. . . It's just the nature of the internet. It's all buyer beware wether you're getting advice from the sales guy or the know-it-all from 2 states over. . .

What amazed me about this forum is how well most of the vendors get along. We are not allowed to post for the sake of posting but we are allowed to answer questions that come up. On any forum you are getting info from salespeople. The difference here is we are upfront about it and not pretending to be customers. Well, I guess there are a few.

You simply can't replace the knowledge guys like Scotty, DCS, Etc Etc have

I think once you spend a little time here on the forum you will see that most any positive or negative comments by salesperson ( company) or a suspicious newbie will get feedback both agreeing or challenging them on whatever claim or opinion is made.

As for flooring specifically, there are lots of choices in the marketplace and most everyone on this forum is a true believer in whatever system they are using,be it epoxy, paint, VCT or modular garage tiles.

I happen to be an independ. rep for concrete repair and/or waterproofing/ vapor proofing products that post a few bits of info on this site. I believe strongly in the products I rep but we all know our limits to our products. To give fair and honest opinions (2cents), based on experience, about individual flooring "issues", whatever they may be, I think is extremely helpful. I personally have found many products from this site...enjoy. ps; if you're going to pour any concrete, you better put Vapor Lock 20/20 in it !

Some of us installers like to help educate people. You can take our real world advice with 100's of floors under our belts or you can choose to ignore us but I think we "service guys" contribute greatly to this site.

Both on the site in general, and the flooring area in particular, you'll find exceptional restraint and a lot of helpful input at Garage Journal. The vendors here are very generous with their time and expertise.

In fact, the only one really hustling a flooring product around here seems to be that 'Jack Olsen' fellow with his relentless hard sell for cheap floor tiles. (What's that guy's deal, anyway? He's not even in the trade.)

That's just Olsen gone Hollywood since his garage appeared in every magazine except Women's Day. Or maybe I missed that issue.

The vendor input here has been very helpful and supportive. I've seen several instances where a problem was reported and customer service by the company stepped right in and worked it out. You really don't see that much on other forums. Pretty straight and level bunch here.

I check in every so often to read posts on this forum. I only do commercial work and the only time I will do a garage floor is for a friend or friend of a friend type thing.

The thing that i like about the vendors on this forum is they all have one thing in common. "do it right or don't do it at all". I have not read anything that was in bad taste or bashing another company. Always good advice from what I have read.

I'm truly amazed at how some home owners think a little acid etching and a $69 gallon of epoxy is going to hold up for years in their garage. Have these same people priced out hardwood, tile or carpet for their house? Why should the garage be any less expensive?
