Just curiuos, heat from old varnish

I have a bunch of cans of paint and **** in the basement. one can of varnish caught my cause it says flamible. I'd like to get rid of this but its probably hazardous waste. In the garage I have a wood burning stove, right, follow me here. My bright idea is to set this 3/4 full gallon can in the center of my stove, ignite the top, and walla, a big sterno can that heats my whole garage My question is, besides the poisonous gasses killing all the critters out there, would there be any possibility of an explosion to erase any evidense of my stupidity?

By the way, I researched this a little on the net, and haven't found anyone who tried this. So I'm not going to be the first.

One thing this is to make sure it sits level and has no chance what so ever of tipping, or there goes your garage.

No offense whatsoever, but this would rank on the stupid side if you were to do it. I have no idea if you're trying to save money for your heating or you're just being lazy in properly disposing of waste, but it just seems sorta risky, I wouldn't do it.

My advice would be to sober up first, and then think about this some more.

You have a bunch of old cans of paint...take them to recycling. BE SAFE! Some things are not worth the risk!!!....russ

Varnish your firewood.

If you're going to light it up, at least do it outside.

Have you ever smelled varnish for too long? That stuff smells...imagine what it will smell like when you burn it.

Better yet, Run to the local hobby store and pick up some rocket wick. Drill a small hole in the top and place the wick in deep. Where the wick goes in the can seal it with some High temp Hvac caulk.
