Just found a great, simple, cheap alarm system for detached garage

I recently finished and moved my stuff into my detached 1440 sq ft barn/shop. Its 200 ft from my house. I needed a simple, non monitored, alarm system. I wanted one that would notify my phone (via wifi) that an alarm was triggered.

I was looking at simplisafe for the last year. But just found BIBENE on Amazon. Its has all the features I wanted and was only $69.

Its ideal if you have wifi in your shop, but I think it would work without it. However you do need wifi to setup and maintain it.

It has a siren but also notifies me via my iPhone (or samsung), wherever I am, that there was an activation. It comes with two motion detectors and 5 window/door sensors.

It has the ability to add a camera for about $60. With the camera, I could check out the shop after an activation and determine whether to call the cops. I could do this while traveling. The camera would require wifi.

I had it up and running for a few days with no false alarms. So far I highly recommend it.

A couple shots of the garage...

I am a bit fuzzy on how it works. Does it have a 200' range or do you have internet in your shop?

I have wifi in the shop. The system connects to the wifi. If there is an activation, I am notified by the app on my phone (via the internet).

Sorry. I thought I had already replied...

No cost, other than the initial purchase. The app is free. No monthly fees.

Its been about a week and its still functioning correctly. I suspect that support is limited. Peer support is out there. It seems to be getting a following (youtube guy called Life Hacks).

Interested!
I may pull the trigger on Simpisafe, got a 10% discount card the other day, and I have no WiFi in the garage. If I like it and the cellular monitoring I may retrofit the house too and finally ditch my land line.

Older thread but looking for any updates from those who have bought and used this system in their garage?

I currently researching DIY basic home security options for detached garage with WIFI access.

I have had this system since I saw the post last year. It work perfectly for me. The phone application is easy to use. I use it for my 30 x 54 x 12 workshop. I added two Wyze Cams earlier this year. Now, I can see inside whenever I want from my phone. Great combination. Very reassuring to know no one is in there.

It has some glitches, but I still recommend it.

It resets all the settings to the default -- after an activation. So make sure you check your settings after an accidental alarm.

69385vette - which camera did you go with? The one Bibene recomends is no longer available.

I have SimpliSafe for the house and shop. Could be happier. I needed range expanders (two) to make it all work but the Company was GREAT to work with. Technical support is always been an American... That there is enough for me to keep doing business with them..

I would like to add that using cellular monitoring/backup is subject to the variations/disruptions of service in your neighborhood. In large scale emergencies, or other high cellular usage times, ( like, for example, a major tournament at the golf course down the road ) your communicator may not be able to make the outgoing call to the central station, if it can't get a dial tone.

In any event, sending alarm signals via two different protocols is the best idea. None are infallible, but generally POTS is the most reliable, cellular is next, and cable ( TV/internet ) is last. There are a lot of "points of failure" in a cable system.

Relating to cable, my fire department bought into a system that takes emergency calls, which come from the city dispatcher via VHF radio, and dumps them into a PC which rebroadcasts them via cable provider at the firehouse, to our cell phones. It is surprizing how often a cable outage delays the retransmission of calls. The calls always go out, but sometimes it isn't until the cable company has responded to a service call and the emergency is over. After a wind storm, with a lot of tree limbs down, it sometimes is a couple of days.

Sorry. Missed these replies.

Bibene does not have cell backup. Its a low cost solution. We're talking less than $75 total.

It doesn't compare to simplisafe or any monitored (or cell backup) type service. Apples and oranges.
