just got a garage!!!!!!!

so ive never had a garage of my own until tonight
the crew just finished the pre fabbed garage in the backyard
and on a concrete slab poured by a neighboor

its 18x21 and perfect for me i think
i moved in my tiny toolbox and aircompressor....but have to wait for the ground to dry to move my project car back there

how did you guys make your garage your "own" when ya first moved in?

bad news is its supposed to storm tomorrow...which means moving more stuff into the garage will be slowed down

what are the first must's i should do?

Congratulations on your new garage! The only thing I can offer is that when I moved into my first garage last year, I laid all my stuff out in there how I thought worked and looked good. After a while working in there and getting the feel of the garage, I found that didn't work at all, and moved stuff about again to make it more practical.

Welcome to the club, the layout and everything will continue to change over time, new stuff (tools and equipment) so set it up how it works for now. If your not happy with it then try something else

When I got my first garage ( now you will have to use your imagination in the *** manner) I took the wife out there to show her around, closed the door and showed her every inch of it. After getting her involved she has loved the garage ever since. Then do all the other stuff! TEE HEE HEE!

I painted the floor grey to make it easier to sweep up and prevent oil spils from soalking in.
painted the walls white to refrlect the light better, plus it improves the look.
but most important I paid attension to the placement of the toolbox and my workbench.
I think it is important to have their placement so it works well for you so it feels good to work in there.
the placement of the toolbox and workbench should be **** that they are in a location that is a main walkway to prevent the stacking up of items in front of them and should give easy access to them so you can step in to get a quick 2 min job done or be able to work an all day job there.
and hanging a few banners or pictures dosent hurt either

Welcome greens! First garage - you'll find - is nearly as good as your first child!!! Doesn't talk back either....

I would strongly suggest to make it so you can move things around at first. I found that after I built my 16 foot bench and stuffed my sand blaster in one corner, my compressor in another, etc., that I could have put this here, or that there, or maybe wanted something under the bench where the shelf now is....So now I have to empty the whole place and cut out some shelves, maybe even move some airlines to change it.

hey thats pretty cool man. Never seen a pre fab before.

I just got my new first garage in december. I have worked on it steady and made comfortable for me. I did a lot of planning before I put in the electrical and insulation and dry wall. I set it up to be as work friendly as possible for my taste. Also I spend time in there to unwind or do some stuff with the kids.

yup...they left some metal from the install and i immediately went to work
i cut and welded up a workbench
thank goodness for long extension cords!
once we lay gravel from the garage to the driveway i can roll my 52 plymouth in and get to work...
