I just ground my two car today with an electric EDCO single disc, three cartridge diamond grinder! Rented it from a local yard at about $70 for the machine and $75 for the diamond cartridges. I also rented a Bosch electric grinder with a diamond disc on it, dont know the model as I sit here typing this, but think it was $50 to rent. They are closed Sunday, so this is a one day rental for two days.

The EDCO worked great! Not sure if that is a testament to the machine and cartridges, or to the shegrin of my concrete...but it worked like a daisey. I had read the posts of EDCO's being ****, or single discs man-handling the user, but I had no problem at all. It easily took the 'cream' off my slab and was easy to control. I didnt have to add weight to the machine or do anything special, just ran it like you'd expect to. It doesnt get near the edge though, so this is where the hand-held unit came in handy, although it didnt get totally into the corners either. Luckily I have another grinder for metal, typical DeWalt grinder and I put a Home Depot masonary 4" disc on it for the nooks and crannies. Between all three machines, I got the whole garage done, including chasing cracks, in about 3 hours.

So here is the bad news. Silty dust! I have a 14gal 6HP Rigid vaccum with a hepa filter on it and was using vac bags. Blew two bags apart before abandoning that config. The dust is so fine, so silt-like that it kept clogging the filter. With the vacumm filter freshly tapped to remove silt, the machines still make quite a dust storm, but when the filter finally and persistently becomes clogged with silt, OMG! Imagine the worst desert dust storm over in the middle east, and now imagine that in your two car! My neighbors surely hate me after today. I finally gave up trying to sweap every so often and just kept stoppping to tap the **** outta the filter, dumping into a trash can and then resuming for 15min until it clogged again. I am not sure how I could have reduced the dust. My vac did great but the dust is so fine that it kept clogging the bag until it blew apart, and then the filter kept cloggin until it wasnt able to draw air. Buy and wear a quality respirator, not one of those grasshopper stopper paper masks...a good cartridge style for asbestos and silt.

The net net is that the machines and diamond stones worked great. My two car is done after about 3 hours and tomorrow I will pressure wash it out and clean up...my back was killing me from chasing edges and cracks by hand. While I hope to not do this again anytime soon, it wasnt horrible and considering how much $$ I saved by DYI, well worth it. I am a total novice, only started researching a few months back, and had no trouble. Albeit I am pretty handy and have an eye for detail, but I think anyone could do this.

Next weekend...Wolverine! Shout out to Fred @ Alpha Garage and Roger55 for all the info and replies!

Glad to hear things went well! I had the same problem with my 5 hp ShopVac connected to a two-disc EDCO. I thought I would take an extra precaution and bought the $38 HEPA filter for the ShopVac, and that likely worked against me. Next time, I'll try a sheetrock filter to see if that lasts longer.

I agree 100% about the respirator. I used a North 7700 with the HEPA cartridges. Silacosis is nothing to sneeze about.

Is there a vacuum system that works properly for the EDCO grinder (I don't want any dust)? I was going to use my 4 gallon wet vac, but based on this post it definetly will not work. If so, what type of vacuum specs should I be looking for?

You should be able to rent a pulsating vac at your rental yard. These are basically modified shop vacs that the filter pulsates to keep the fine dust from clogging the filter.
