I don't think Sears will be locking their doors in the immediate future, while you're vacationing in Orlando. You still have time to visit one of their stores. However, the future doesn't look good for them in the next 6 months to 1 year. It sounds like they will be closing some individual store locations before Christmas, but the company in general is not closing.......yet.

I'd pass on Home Depot, unless you want to drag back some cordless bare tools. HF has a few items worth looking at. I'd check for some industrial supply places, you may be able to find some cool stuff... Williams, Proto/Blackhawk, SK, Wright...

Harbor Freight is an American retailer that sells a mixture of items, most of which are made in China. That that fact is true of nearly every other American retailer is beside the point.

Hi Cy1. Don't know whereabouts you are staying, but there's a reasonable Sears at the Altemonte Mall, North Orlando. If you are in one of the Hotels nearby it's worth a visit!

I've bought a lot of stuff there over the years, but sadly the stuff that was best value (Craftsman) which used to be good U.S. made tools, are now imported and are nowhere near what they used to be! There's still stuff to buy though, and U.S. tools sourced in the U.S. are a fraction of the price they are back home so are great value!

Definitely track down the Local Snap On rep! Ring Snap On, they will give you his number, and you can arrange to meet somewhere local! They're usually keen to meet cash buyers, but a lot of the U.S. reps don't carry the stock that the U.K. guys do, so perhaps place an order when you arrive and collect before you go!

Don't know about now, but the Snap On rep in the Northern Orlando / Altemonte Springs area used to be a Brit, and he was very good at getting stuff in for me!

I'd suggest you set up a US address with a international shipping forwarder. That will allow you to buy online from sellers that only ship to US addresses.

Now go enjoy your honeymoon because the only tools you'll likely find in US B&M stores are low end Chinese junk. They're all about the same whether you go to HF, Home Crapo, Lowes, Walmart, Sears, etc. The average US consumer has a love affair with cheap Chinese goods so that's all you're likely to find in retail stores.

Pawn shops in my end of the country are grossly overpriced junk most of the time. I'd actually recommend finding an industrial tool supplier. There are a few brick and mortar industrial tool supply stores in my area that have a very nice selection of high quality SK tools at one store, and the other has an excellent selection of Proto tools. At the same time I'm thankful I found those stores I also curse the discovery...:lol_hitti Not having a business account with these type of stores mean that you will pay higher prices but the tools are top notch. The other option is to hunt down a snap on or mac truck. I wouldn't waste much time with Sears or Harbor freight if you have Chinese tools at home but it never hurts to check them out and see if they have something different that strikes your fancy.

Harbor Freight is the biggest candy store in the world! - don't miss it!

stick with things made in Taiwan, and you will be amazed at the quality and the price you will swear is a mistake!

make sure to bring coupons from the HF coupon thread in the hot deals section of GJ to get free stuff on every visit and 25% off every purchase (except toolboxes, generators, compressors and floor jacks)

I suggest checking out US made tools that would be more expensive over in Ireland. Ship the items to yourself freight, may be cheaper than carrying on the plane, plus all that metal and customs. Take picture, as you pack the boxes. Lube and seal in bags if it is going to be at sea for weeks. I would probably pick up some ratchets, flank drive plus, ratcheting 5 position screw driver, and whatever else my new bride was willing to get me for a wedding present. Things that will help the honey do list. This month there is a deal for a free ratchet wih a set of sockets.

You might not be able to take tools back, in your carry-on luggage.I flew back from Pittsburg in August, and saw signs saying tools were not allowed in aircraft cabins.
The spanners and ratchets I had in my checked luggage went through ok.

+1 well said. Sears is your best bet though.
