If you've seen my garage, you'd know that it is pretty basic and was never really constructed that well (what can I say? It was here when we bought the place... maybe a remodel in a few years). There was a pretty good gap around the garage door - no wonder it is always cold in there! So, I went to home depot and bought some sealing pieces that go around the garage door molding:

You owuld not believe the difference! It is quieter inside and the wind doesn't whip through like it did before. My mother (of all people :bounce:  ) suggessted that I do this.... less than $35 total cost! I don't know why I didn't do this sooner! Come spring, I'll have top paint the screwheads..... (and a whole bunch of other stuff)

That's pretty slick. I'm going to keep an eye out for that stuff on my next trip.

I'm lazy. Would have just spent the extra $$$ on stainless fasteners to avoid painting them all.

Did you happen to notice if they had different colored trim?... I have brown trim, and that seems like a real good idea.

I have them around all my garage doors, and the only thing that I don't like about them is that in the summer, the plastic will expand and bulge out between the nails. If I were to do it over, I would use stainless steel screws so I could take it off and trim it after it stretches. I believe that it comes in all the colors that the doors come in. Your install looks top notch..

I did not see any brown - in the store. It might be available by special order. I looked all over for white exterior screws... I was gonna go with SS, but since I will just be painting over them anyway, so I went with galvanized.

I have the same trim. I didn't know they had it at Home Depot. Mine are put in with white trim nails. Same nails you use to install aluminum trim.

BTW, I had my trim installed during cold weather. Big mistake. When it was hot out, the trim buckled like Junkman said.

I had it redone again, this time in the warm weather. Fine now.

i have the exact same stuff on my garage door...love it! made an amazing difference in the warmth and sound deadening! i think it cost me around 20 bucks total...
the only thing i did different was i trimmed the overlapping piece to clean up the edge, and i used brad nails

While we're on the topic of garage door seals

What do you guys prefer for the bottom of the door? When mine was installed the guy cut it about 3 inches too short. Not very effective here in Michigan. Since I will need to replace it anyway I figured I'd see what some of you like.

I have seen the threshold type, the bulb type and the lip type. Any others and what works best for you?
