Wondering if anybody knew what size rotary phase converter I would need to run my 3 phase welding machine.its 3 phase 60hz and can be wired 230v/460v
Just looking for some help

Ummm without knowing what the current input requirements are, its impossible to provide an answer.
What make/model welder do you have and can you take a pic of the nameplate?

According to the spec sheet it needs 51A input at 230. That's a pretty serious welder. How much power do you have available in your shop now ? I found this link, maybe a call to them is in order ?

actually it says 67a and 56a on the nameplate and he doesnt have 3 phase. He wants to run an RPC to power this.
A good read on converting 3 phase welders to single phase. Might not be be possible with all machines but worth reading.

I understand that. Wonder why the spec sheet on the Miller page is different ? Either way that is some serious current need.

yes it is for welding especially since modern welders use less current on single phase.
Just the reason why burt was hinting at converting it to single phase

To my eye he needs 16kVa of output so he is looking for a rotary phase converter with a 20 horse power motor.
If you are on a residence electric service most unities do not allow you operate anything over 7 HP. You will certainly dim the lights your house and any neighbors that share your transformer and maybe everyone on your 12kV wire, that's everyone on your side of the street and half the houses on the next street.
If the welding is a hobby and only going to run from time to time the best bet may be to find a generator to run it.

real question is what are you doing that you need a machine of that size? May be time to sell that one off and buy a smaller machine. Sometimes too big IS too big.
That link is for converting transformer machines. The OPs is an inverter. And since it's an inverter it may run just fine on single phase 240v up to half rated output. Depends on what, if any, phase loss protection Miller has built into it.

You’re probably right,it was a freebie.it was going to the scrap heap,so I grabbed it and got someone that has a shop with three phase to check it out and it works just fine....but you’re prob right,maybe sell it and buy somthing similar that can run on single phase power.
