just ordered a 40 pc socket set from autozone (duralast not great neck) and the comfort handle 3/8 rathcet that i hear so much about. anyone with this particular socket set and ratchet, how do you like them? i bought the set to keep in my truck, do you think its a good enough set or should i have gone to the 50 pc or 100 pc set for an "emergency" truck toolset?

I'm building a tool kit for my truck, too, and started this thread that might help you out some. diesel research made a comment on my thread that seemed to be really good advice...

What ever tools you put in there, get in the habit of starting to perform "basic" maintenance with them.

Not only as a reminder that you still have them, but also to get ideas on what else you need, AND most importantly to ensure they fit space confines and are durable enough to use.

I have the Duralast 40pc as well as the comfort grip ratchet. I wanted the have a complete 3/8 set of the Duralast "Chrome Molly" sockets and the old style metric "master" set (p/n: 70-324) is no longer available. What I did was to buy the 40pc set and fill the missing sockets by buying the older "Chrome Molly" singles. I had to visit a few stores to find these. You have to make sure the label says "chrome molly" and also compare the socket visually because sometimes you will see a newer CRV socket with an older label.

The missing sizes are:
8mm Shallow and Deep,
9mm Deep
11mm Deep
7/8 Shallow
1/4 Deep
3/8 Deep
11/16 Deep

I found these NOS singles for about $40 total, so for $80 I have every socket in the master sets (except the trays) which were sale priced at about $110 and also got a ratchet, spark plug socket and two extensions.

PS:
Do the "spring clip" mod on the ratchets.
