Guys, all good points, and I would probably say the same thing if I were on the other end of the keyboard. And I may still be proven wrong, we'll find out tomorrow.

But, regarding the "scam" aspect, I told him that I'll take the box and he said OK before I told him that I will need to come back for it later or asked him to deliver it. So he had no way of knowing that I was not going to take it right there and then when he accepted my money.

As far as the box being paid off, I actually asked him and he looked at me like I was from the moon or something (or like I have been hanging around suspicious guys like you for too long :) ). I guess you had to be there and see the whole shop and the setup - the guy is running an impressive car business in the back of his house, he is not some (forgive me) nosepicker selling a tool box on a street corner. At least that is my assessment.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow morning. Good thing I scored a night shift at work tonight and so won't have to lose any sleep tonight over this "scam" concern you guys brought up!

I wouldn't sweat it, no sense in worrying about that hasn't even happened yet, chances are everything will be fine.

There are always a few oddballs who think the sky is falling here. I know they mean well, but some of the stuff they dream up is plain silly. Anything is possible I guess. While we are at it, aren't you worried his shop may burn to the ground along with your box? lol! Seriously though, I can't even imagine living like that, worried and nervous about everything.

Just worked a deal on a Matco7525. Owner calls me and tells me the shop he worked for fell down the night before and the car on the lift next to his former work station fell off and ended up protecting the box and saving it from damage. So **** can and does happen!

Leon, the point of my posts was to look at all possibilities before paying for something you haven't received yet. Some people think you should trust everyone, but that's what scammers look for. So when I saw you wrote that you were getting the box for sure but hadn't actually gotten the box, that had me wondering.

Sounds like your seller is a reputable guy and I look forward to seeing pics of your new box. :)

Your posts are a good primer for others dealing with people on craig's list and elsewhere, we have no shortage of scammers out this way.

Absolutely, and I appreciate what you guys wrote! Believe me, I didn't want to leave the cash and the box with him, but he was insisting on the full payment, and I know he had numerous guys offering to come and grab the box at a drop of a hat. So yep, I took a risk, but all's well, the box is now safely in my garage :). I did have to go get it myself, as his buddy's truck was not available, and I wanted to get my hands on the box!

I'll take and post some pics soon.

Here are a couple of pictures of the box in its new home.

I took out all the drawers today, cleaned and lubed the slides, it works really nice now.

You can see the scratches and scrapes, so it is not cherry. Oh well, I look at the wear as patina. Maybe if I get really ambitious one day I'll reshoot it with a new coat of paint, but not any time soon.

Also I figured out why some of the drawers did not lock - the little tabs in the back of some drawers were bent over and did not engage the lock bar. They work now :).

Looks good! Have a couple questions.

What are the dimensions?

Does Cornwell have a date code on their boxes? I'm curious to know how old it is.

It's about 58"W x 24"D x 39"H.

The model is CTB5810BL. The date code is 7-02-24608 - if you can help me decipher that, that would be great. I am guessing it's 10+ years old (?).

Wheres the cornwell logo on it?

btw... YOU ****

Thanks :). The logo is missing, unfortunately. I have no idea where to get a replacement - maybe I'll call Cornwell tomorrow.
