Just picked up a used compressor with a bad motor. Its a 7HP 60G Husky Pro VT631402AJ for $100

Its in great shape but I didn't realize the motors where so damn expensive. 7.5HP compressor motors are close to $800 shipped costing close to the MSRP of this compressor.

Anyone have any good thoughts or options on repairing or replacing the motor? Any places to get a new motor for cheap?

Thanks!

That's a 2hp compressor at best. Look for a good 2 to 3hp motor and forget the bogus hp rating on the tank.

Very unlikely that it's a true 7.5 HP motor. Many manufacturers will way over state their HP rating and use the language "develops 7.5 hp" or something like that.

Any true 7.5HP motor would require near 40 amps at 230 volt, check the ratings plate on the motor to be sure. From what I search, that is only a 60 gallon single stage compressor. Most of those sized compressor are labeled "5HP" but really aren't even that. Should require a motor something like this one.

Thanks for the replies. When I get home I will take a look at the info on the motor. That should give me a bit more info.

check for a label like this. this label is also stretching the truth - aka a lie. best bet is to get the nameplate off the motor and get one with the same specs.

Just wanted to provide an update. I swapped out the OE switch for a Condor 90/135 pressure switch. Ran new 10ga wire from the motor to the switch, and from the switch to the 220V receptacle. Used 10/3 SJOOW chord from the switch to the 220v 30A receptacle. Twist loc.

Running a HF filter, with a Husky high flow regulator, all liquid filled gauges. Installed 3/8 line to a 50' hose reel with high flow connections.

Runs like a champ. Takes about 7 minutes to fill up which is pretty good for a single stage IMO. No leaks and has no issues restarting under pressure.

Thanks for everyones help.

Find out what went for new. Most of the time, not worth buying an used air compressor.Went to one auction, seen a couple used air compressors go for more than new.

If you where in the Milwaukee area I would sell you mine for $300. Have not used it since I moved up here.

Get rid of the filter and regulator. You will be much happier. I would also run at least 1/2" to your hose real.
