Hello all I'm new here.I have been lurking for a while now and finally decided to register.Awhile back I had a bunch of my tools stolen and have been slowly building them back up.I had to go to the parts store this morning and stopped by Lowes to check out their tools. They currently have the kobalt 1/4 & 3/8 sockets on sale in both sae and metric.1/4" shallow is $4.97 and 3/8 shallow is 7.97 and deep is 9.97.I picked up a set of each 1/4 shallow and a set of 3/8 metric deep.I have several other kobalt tools and have been very satisfied with them.I plan on going back to get the other sets to add to my collection along with the full Polish wrench sets that are $19.97.

Welcome aboard chevy, i have always liked the laser etching and color coding (good for us old/blind farts) also like that the metrics have no skips, that is not all that common for homeowner grade socket sets.

EDIT : Never mind, just noticed the deep wells skip.

Thanks for the "Heads-Up" I had to ride out to look. Picked up a 8 piece set of locking pliers (Task Force) for $7.49 that I had no use for, less than a dollar for each.

I just got back from Lowes again.Had to go pick up a brass fitting for in my intake. While I was there I went ahead and picked up the standard 3/8 deep socket set and the metric and standard 11pc full Polish wrench sets for $19.97 each.My little US General 4 drawer cart is now at it's limits.Time to get a roller chest.Really thinking about the 44" bottom chest from Harbor Freight.

Im about to go to lowes this afternoon after checking out a few deals online. Namely Im going to get this set

http://www.lowes.com/pd_338511-2232...uctId=3387774&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1

To keep with me in my truck. For $20 I figured I cant go wrong, even if it is Taiwan made.

There were a few more deals I was looking at, the 11 piece Deep 3/8'' drive sets are $9.97. May get a Standard and Metric. Ive been looking to build a set of tools for my truck anyways.

I really like the large print sizes on the side of the sockets, as i get older the eyes get a little weaker, nice purchase...

Hopped in the Klown Kar and rushed right over to Lowes first thing this morning. Picked up this:
http://www.lowes.com/pd_222202-2542..._qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo=New Lower Price
and a couple of metric combo wrench sets (regular and stubby).I'll split this stuff up between my car, the truck, and the house. I have a lot of extra pliers and screwdrivers around, so I should end up with some pretty good trunk repair kits.:rocker:

Yeah Im not a big fan of the Taiwan COO, but hell if Craftsman is going Chinese Id rather buy Taiwan Kobalt for Cheaper. And im a huge Craftsman fan.

But I just got back from Lowes, grabbed a few things I needed and strolled on over to the Asian Tool Dept where I picked up the 40 piece 3/8'' drive set for $25 and the 16 piece 1/2'' drive set for $20.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_338511-2232...uctId=3387774&Ns=p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1

I cant find the online link for the 40 piece 3/8'' drive set.

What I dont get is how the hell Sears wants $40 for a "Slim profile" 60 Tooth 1/2'' drive ratchet made in Taiwan, when I can go to Lowes and get a 72 Tooth 1/2'' drive Taiwan Kobalt, plus extension, plus 14 Sockets for $20.

Same with 3/8'' drive. I feel like I got a great deal for $25 bucks for this set. 72 tooth ratchet, 39 sockets and extensions for $25! Sears wants $32 for JUST A 60T TAIWAN RATCHET! Why the HELL Would I buy that When I can go to Lowes and Get a 72T plus all the other **** for $25?

Jury is out on how the Taiwan Stuff will do, but I doubt it will be bad.

I picked up a set of those metric 6pt sockets, and spend the 3.50 for the missing 16mm. I am putting together a birthday present with them. Nice quality sockets. I passed on the 12pt.

I got the 12 point sets just because I didn't have any and some of the stuff I work on at times takes 12 point.Just one of those cases where I don't have that so might as well get for when I need it.Besides you can't ever have to many tools.

Been checking out my new Kobalt Tools, and Ive found two things I dont like about them.

1) I like the laser marking, but I wish they were Dual-Marked like Craftsman sockets are. Im not a fan of the only-laser marked. In the effort they spent Stamping KOBALT TAIWAN 3K and the part # above the paint stripe I feel like they sould have stamped the size.

2) I dont like the fact that theyre Taiwan COO. Sure, they may be great tools, I just wish they were American Made.

I would NOT have bought them If they werent on what I thought was a good sale. Spent $45 total and got two tool sets that were regularly priced $55 (40 pc. 3/8'' drive) and $40 (16 pc. 1/2'' drive).

I may go back and get some 1/4'' drive stuff for the truck later this week!

Other than these, I think Ive found two great sets to keep in my truck!

I was at lowes several times over the last week. They have their extreme universal combowrench sets on clearence today for 12 bucks today down from 20. I snagged a set to put in my tool kit for the boat. Kinda thinking I need a set for the garage box too for when I have a fastener that I just can't get off with regular sockets or wrenches.

Return them, they will strip out the fastener. That unisize system is to larger on some metric or sae fastener. They should have made a metric and sae set, not 2 in 1.

Send the extra 5 dollar and get the 11pc for 25 buck.

That 44" us general box is the best deal hands down that hf offers. I know a few techs that use the older crinkle finished ones professionally and are very happy with them. Of course their snap on buddies ride their *** about their purchase. I have the newer gloss red one and couldn't be happier.

They say "Taiwan" on them? Most of the Asian tools being made recently have no COO stamped on the tool itself; just the box.

the craftsman are better, they were smart enough to have a SAE set and and Metric set.

The Kobalt on new fastener are ok, but on a boat, where they start to corrode, I would not use a unisize spline. I would use a dedicated metric or SAE depending on the fastener.

PS if you look at the black and silver deep sockets form kolbalt, there is a SAE and Metric set. Not 2 in 1.

Kobalt also has another set of the unifit wrenches that are specifically marked sae and Emma. They have some kind of black coating on them. The Lowes near me has them for 11.98 a set. They look just like the craftsman sets.

Yes I agree with you on that.I received one of the 3/8 kobalt xtreme access socket set as a gift. While it does come in handy for some I wouldn't use it where I had to put a lot of torque on something.I use the ratchet as a wrench more than I use the sockets.

I picked up a few sets today.

The 1/4" drive deep sets weren't on sale at my store.

My only complaint with the sockets is that they don't have any knurling so they'll **** to spin by hand.

I think Im gonna go back today and get one of those 1/4'' driver sets.

For 15 bucks its got a bunch of extensions, the ratchet, breaker bar, u-joint, flex extension, and probably 6 sockets.

Pretty good deal considering the ratchet alone is 15 bucks, breaker bar 10, plus everything else. Cant go wrong to pitch the little box in the tool box of my truck and have it when I need it!

I just bought my girlfriend the 1/4 and 3/8 mechanics set. I think it was the 69 piece with the bit screwdriver. I think it was 69 originally, down to 19. I like it has the ends of the sockets painted for standard or metric. She fell in love with it, and just finished using it to help me do a transmission flush/filter and A/C filters on an S55 amg.
