Howdy folks

First time poster, but I have been snooping around here for quite a while now.
I found a wealth of information on your discussion board, and I hope that maybe with time I can contribute, but at the moment it feels like I am playing catch up to many of you on here.

Having said that, I'd like to introduce you to, one of my dreams slowly coming into existence...

At first, there was nothing...

Then some trees had to go

Some friends showed up to play in the dirt

Then someone pilled the sand pit with gravel

Covered it with Styrofoam and pex pipe

Poured concrete over the whole thing

Added a curb so you have something to trip over

More to come in a bit...

After the curb was done, some more friends arrived:

New shapes started emerging...

A big box was the result for that day

Then some triangles arrived!

Someone had the bright idea of putting them on top of my box...

I used to build balsa planes which looked similar, but this one had no wings...

It's busy up there

The triangles were apparently a neat spot to hang out on

Now they put steel on top!

Ah wait a minute, I see what this is!

I could make this into a new Toy Chest!

Add some wrapping...

Slap on some temporary doors to keep unwanted guests out

Just in time to keep the white stuff out too

My new toy chest turned out a bit Big!
it measures 26'x40', two garage bay doors, one entry door, two windows, and I can tell you there will be a lot of neat stuff inside it!

At the moment, I'm working on electrical, I got all the lights and outlets roughed in, now I just need a welder and air compressor plug, maybe a few more for some bigger equipment. I'm running all the cabling up over the trusses, so in the future I can add drops anywhere I need, but I'm trying to minimize that.
I'll still run coax, and cat6, as well as some speaker wires into each corner, and a few boxes for ceiling fans.
It's a bit of work and it's quite cold out there right now, but I'm doing what I can.

I unfortunately don't live where my new toy chest is, but I'm up there every weekend and it's being looked after. I want to dedicate one bay for a paint booth, the other for a small hoist, and the remaining area will be a workshop for a lathe, mill, welder, and anything else I come up with. I also want to get a lister diesel backup generator in there for the garage and house, power outages are frequent recently.

I've been planning this for quite a while, but it happened a lot sooner than I thought, about 7 years sooner thanks to good planning and finding the right people to do the work. I'm almost ready to retire now. I have a project car that will be moved in there shortly, it's an 85 Mercedes 190E, nothing special, but it was my first car and I can't seem to let it go. Before I move it in there, I want to epoxy the floor to keep the oil out.

Let me know what you guys think.

Looking good. Now put your general location in your profile so we can tell what part of the country you are in. Obviously not the deep south.:D

I live in the Greater Toronto Area, but my garage is a two hour drive up north from Toronto.

I've been spending my weekends working on it, I'm almost done wiring everything up.
I have 15A outlets all along the wall for general purpose stuff, 20A outlets in my workshop area, three way switches for lighting, ceiling fans, garage door opener outlets, I'm about to run two 220V outlets for a welder and an air compressor, can't wait to have those two up and running.
Then I ran speaker wire, 2x cat6 and 2x coax to every corner and an area I plan to have a desk/table in. I think that should cover all I want to have in there.

Next step will be garage door installation, siding, attic access and floor, vapr barrier strapping, insulation....
I'm real antsy to get to the heating system, so many ideas there.
I'm thinking of going with a wood boiler hooked up to my infloor heating, but lately a waste oil burner is looking very attractive also, however I do have more wood then oil at the moment, and I was planning to put in a big unit so I can run it into the house as well, the closed cell spray foam pipe to run the water into the house is a bit pricey though.

Glad you guys like it so far.
