i see on here a lot of guys talking about "i was on the tool truck today"

as i see no tool trucks at my work.but do see a bunch go by. do you all have to look for stuff on breaks or lunch or does your employer let you go out during paid hours?

i know my boss, if your not working then their is something wrong and everything else better be done on breaks.

When I worked a job that I had to buy my own tools, they came to the shop and we went out whenever we wanted while they were there, if the boss did not like it we would tell him that without these nothing will get fixed, but now I get tools bought for me and it is so nice

Whenever the truck shows up. We are spending our money to make them money. If the tools we buy on the truck make them more money they should allow it.

the 2 shops where I usually meet up with the truck lets their employees go on the truck when it gets there. Hell, their boss was even on board today! I figure if you're buying tools that increase your productivity and in turn make them more money, they'd be idiots to not let you. Paying an employee for 15 minutes of tool shopping every couple weeks is a small investment in many gained hours of productivity.

Every shop I ever worked at as a tech I was paid by the job, so it really wasn't anyone's business what I did... Didn't "hurt" anyone but me if I took a 15 minute break.

The ******** truck has the best AC in the summer. Sometimes shopping on the truck takes a bit longer. :D

I talk to the boss/owner and if I am causing a problem then we work things out to make it good for everyone. I do not mind dropping by at certian times. makes me stay on schedule through out the day.

Most of the time for me I was my own boss but I didn't mind my guys spending a few minutes on the truck. They helped me make money.

I worked for a guy once that used to give me **** about it until I reminded him I was on commision and to **** off because I always cranked the work out.

Its called being an dumb A-hole. Some people just lose it if their workers don't appear to be slaving away.

Our factory used to be visited by tool trucks but the bosses told them not to come at all! That was about 15 years ago. I cringe about daily watching the guys fumblefuck around with some of the tools they are using...

On the other hand our guys don't get paid enough to afford tool truck prices. Maybe the owners were trying to do the guys a favor...a raise would be better.

BRAKE CHECK in harker heights gave the best/worst cussing in my life for pulling up on their porperty
i learned new words that day.
I told him to back off and that i would leave. he couldnt let it go. i bet he has to take blood pressure meds after that melt down.
they try to con the guys into buying tools from them and they do not help with warranty.
I will never tell anyone I know to go there. EVER.

Ya brake check is a coal miner's commissary. Offer $7.25/hr, tell their workers to bring own tools, and then hand a very specific list (including specialty tools) of what they must own within so many days of working there, or they are out of there. Of course they have the online "store" which offers to garnish checks over a longer period of time. You can see how someone could get trapped there.

I have an interesting situation. I work overnights, aka "grave yard". I am required to bring my own as well. The matco and ******** guys were banned from the premises for shady business (mostly the techs fault, but none the less). The snap on man comes every OTHER wednesday. Of course he will not come at midnight or 2am to sell me tools or replace broken ones lol. So if I really really want to buy off his truck, I need to pay cash in full and come to work (off the clock) several hours early, and then wait in the break rooms for several hours til punch in time. Still to this day I have never met him, kind of like sasquatch.

I encoraged my guys to go out to the truck. Anything that makes the job faster, easier or more exciting I was all for it. Strange as it may seem it was a moral builder. You get all the guys in a cramped truck interested in the same thing and it seemed to make everybodys mood better for the rest of the day. Those that bought tools couldn't wait to use them, thats always good

Then if I owned the shop, I'd have the tool guy come first thing in the morn. Buy your tools, be happy, excited to use them and get to work.

Our guy came by about 11am. I wouldn't ask him to change his entire routine for my shop. Not only that but the highest% of work get done in the first half of the day. Guys tend to slow down later in the day.

I work at an airport. Snap On guy I use parks his truck in one of the hangars, there are actually two Snap On guys at the airport I work at.

I'll either catch up with him at his hangar before he goes on his route and get what I need, or just get what I need from him on Monday when he is in the neighborhood around work. Sometimes I'll just call and go to where he is if I really need something.

Most of the time I just call him, and make arrangements to get whatever it is I need, but I run into the guy all the time so no biggy.

Our truck guys hang out in the parking lot for several hours twice a week around shift change. It's a pretty good setup, since I'm reasonably certain that they wouldn't want to take their shiny trucks (especially Snap-On) across muddy mine roads to get to the heavy duty shops.

I worked for this one jerk when I was about 25 years old, every time the truck came in he was like "what a Ya need, what a Ya need I'll get it, I'll get it".
Maybe I just want to look around a little bit.

Where I am at now the snap on man stopped in one time, well OK no one brought anything, but IMO If he was any kind of salesman, he would stop by and show us the specials. I might just say what the hay, and buy something. I used to do that the last place I worked. I had an account with him, so he would stop in every week any ways, but I usually ended up buying something small at least. Or sometimes he had used stuff.
Where I am now a lot of us have things we need replaced on warranty , but it's a hassle now. Sometimes I run into him on my way home, but you have to make sure you have the tool on you all the time.
But now Dave at Hill international said we could drop off tools to be warrantied.
Just have to get them up there.
Thanks,
Tony

I'm just a weekend warrior so no SO guy stops at my work but I know him very well and I just text him whenever I need anything. My work is close to the shipping depot so he just stops by my work whenever my tool comes in when he picks up his SO shipment for the day. Very convenient for both of us.
