I am a stay at home Dad, I live off the kindness of my Wife, since I have a 1500 sq ft garage she is vary kind, my Wife is a air traffic controller, I don't know if it would be considered easy government job but it is a government job, and was more secure then my job as a EDM electrode designer for a injection mold manufacturer, so I stay at home with our 4 year old son, when he goes to school I will look for a part time job.

Another "Stay At Home Dad" here. My wife and I adopted 3 boys. Two are developmentally disabled. I tried to work and put the kids in daycare but there were problems. She makes 3x the money I made and loves her job. I miss my job and friends but it's best for our boys at this point. And we can go out to the garage and work on stuff together (if it's something simple and safe of course). Have 600 sq. ft. 3-car attached to house.

I am a very lucky man. I build hot rods with my best friend, and have done so for the past 10 years. Even the worst day at work is better than the best day at any other job I ever had!

Former fleet mechanic, dealership technician, Amoco gas station/independent repair shop owner, and various manager positions for 2 automobile companies. These days I work for the consulting division of a software company that provides auto parts comparative pricing analysis for many of the auto companies. I get to work from home (with an occasional client visit) and with the auto industry the way it is, more & more are looking for the extra cash that we can bring to the table. Interestingly enough, none of the "Big 3" are regular customers.

BTW, "Lou's Garage" is borrowed from my dad's Esso Servicenter (late 40's - mid 60's).

Since I have been a reader for too long and not a contributor, I did not post on the orignial post, here is my information:
I am a metallurgical engineer by degree, now work on nuclear weapons. Yes, the kind that make large mushroom clouds. Deal with lots of gov't security rules. I need to go through 4 security checks (guard badge check or badge swipe) just to get to my desk. Then more security stuff to actually work on classified material. I travel too much which makes it hard to work on my car projects sitting in a hotel room away from home in the evenings. I wish I was retired now, I could keep busy full time without a problem. Given the federal gov't controlled nature of nukes and being out of favor now with current administration and congress, federal cutbacks could have me changing fields in the near future.

I fly the world's fastest civilian jet airplane, the Citation X. Seats 8 people but in great style. Very fun job but it keeps me away from home for up to 8 days at a time. Not as bad as when Iwas in the army though.

I was just sure that there was a very long thread on occupations, some time back, but after an hour of searching a zillion different ways (learned alot about searching on this board however) I cannot find it, it must be well hidden. Good reason to tag new threads with useful search keywords like occupation and employment.

Anyhow, airline mechanic for the worlds largest airline. Hydraulic systems, landing gears, flight controls and rigging as a specialty, plus whatever else they ask me to do. August will be 20 years in this job. Been turning wrenches on airplanes for 33 years, and fiddling with cars, largely to keep my own running and maintained, for about 37 or 38 years now.

We don't specialize in certain model aircraft, work 'em all, B737NG, 757, 767, 777, MD88, MD90, MD11, and formerly on 727's, classic 737's, DC-9's, L-1011's, A-310's.
