Got this JW Pickavant no. 230 brake pipe flaring set today at a carboot sale
Would this be an earlier set from before the Sykes pickavant company? It's made in Birmingham UK
It seems good quality & older than the SP sets I've seen before
It comes with the dies & tools as shown
Are the 3 large bosses with the tapped holes standard or custom parts? The lower split dies fit these bosses & also the tapped handle.
I was wondering if they were custom made for use in a restricted space?
I haven't a clue what the plastic handles tool is for though??

Yes, J.W.Pickavant merged with Sykes in 1968, so it predates that.

And yes, good tools. Have no concerns!

The plastic handled tool is an “E clip” applicator.

Thanks for that. I thought it was of the usual sykes pickavant quality
From looking at Google the larger plain bosses with the tapped hole don't appear on other sets so have perhaps been fabricated? Would they be better in confined spaces I wonder?

Haven't seen a E clip tool before. Thanks!

The E clip tools are surprisingly expensive to buy, but if you’ve got a hundred widgets to assemble, with a couple of clips each, they start to look good value.

I’ve bought a couple new, and pick up any used ones I find.
