K-D Tools 1/2" micrometer torque wrench

K-D Tools 1/2" micrometer torque wrench there is one listed locally on Craig's list for $30.00 The ad says:K-D Tools 1/2" micrometer type torque wrench:
* Model 3265
* 10-150 ft lbs
* Made in USA
* Very nice/like new condition overall, but the gear/mechanism in the head does not engage correctly - will need some type of repair so selling as is and priced accordingly.
* First $30

Is it worth trying to make a buck, where would I get parts, if needed, or is it a waste of time.

With the ratchet not working correctly, I would also question the accuracy of the wrench itself. Did someone use it as a breaker bar to break the ratchet?

Personally, I would pass on it.

I too would be very leary of buying a torque wrench with a messed up ratcheting action. There were more than a few versions of that torque wrench. If it's an older one with the black elastomer handle, repair kits haven't been available for more than awhile. If it has the contoured plastic handle with the spring loaded lock, the it may have the funky craftsman like round head without quick release ratcheting action and you should be able to get a repair kit from Armstrong.
However, why go through all of that? I mean you can get a brand new torque wrench for less than a $100.
I say pass and save your money toward a new Precision Instruments spit beam torque wrench.

X2 on this response. On a used torque wrench, unless it was very lightly used and less than a year old, you should have it recalibrated which could run in the area of 50 bucks with shipping. The Precision Instruments split beams are really nice. Best prices are on Tooltopia.

Good advise from Fedwrench and Bruce57. I recommend that you spend the money for a torque wrench that you can trust. For many of us on this board, it is one of the only true precision tools that we'll have in our tool box; why take a chance? I've been to many estate sales and have seen torque wrenches that have been abused or filthy w/ the spring wound tightly; I just pass.

Thanks for the advice, I really didn't need it, but thought if it was a great deal I would jump on it. Sometimes a person needs a little reasoning.
