Found this set of K-mart wrenches in a pawn shop bin yesterday. Took a fair amount of digging, but I found what appears to be a five piece set of DBE wrenches. Included are: 3/8 - 7/16, 1/2 - 9/16, 19/32 - 11/16, 5/8 - 3/4, and 13/16 - 7/8. Not the fanciest tools, but they look and feel like decent quality tools. Total cost was $5.00.

for 5 bucks nice piece of history, I wonder if you could trade them in on a set of craftsman, or do you think the k-mart brand was better, I also would like to know who made them? Imports?....Richie

I saw a Kmart socket set at the junk store a few weeks back. If I recall correctly they were made in Japan. I would have snagged them, but the ratchet was one of those super el-cheapo's with the black plastic reverse button. I have a couple of JC Penny ratchets, made by SK. Those are very nice, they have the RHFT, with a paintbrush handle.

Looks like rebranded craftsman to me.... Since Kmart sells craftsman tools that is

LOLZ.

Those wrenches FAR predate the ******* love-making hillbilly wedding that was Sears and Kmart merging a decade ago.

I;m gonna guess Japan or Taiwan as the COO on those wrenches as well.

I sent jeffmoss26 a nice JCPenney 3/8" extension last summer. It was a nice piece.

Very capable tools back then and even now. Warranty? Not so much now.

But I see both brands at yard sales and fleas on occasion.

You overpaid! Nah, I'm just kidding. Looking at these wrenches they seem decently built. You only overpaid if you're planning on hawking them, if you keep and use them you didn't overpay. I have crappier offset wrenches. Don't have a whole lot of use for them honestly.

I'll cut to the chase: you're looking at a resale of about 10 bucks or 12-15 bucks with shipping but they'll take a while to sell. Better to use until they kmart out.

So if the pawn shop sold them for $5, that means someone pawned them for like 25 cents? :)

Might not be to far off with that 25 cents. More than likely those wrenches where lumped into someone's junk tool box that was pawned with a bunch of other tools for pennies on the dollar. The pawn shop then just piece meals out the tools and still makes some money in the end.

The more that guy posts the more I fully understand the appropriate "notallthere" screen name. :headscrat:

Yeah right.

What exactly did I say that is wrong (according to you)? The fact that they're usable? Yeah they are. The fact that he probably overpaid at 5 bucks? Yeah he did. The fact that a collector would buy a set of kmart wrenches for 10 bucks? Because they would.

I love these random comments from some of the guys on here knocking people without providing a reason for doing it. You're a pretty wacky dude yourself like in that thread where you knocked a new member for failing to use search. You're a real cool guy.

Did I say anything you said in this thread was incorrect? No I didn't. I laughed at Lookin's comment as it was highlighting where you contradicted yourself in the same post. Yes I do get a bit irritated when people expect a hand out without providing a little bit of effort on their part. Not sure which thread you are specifically talking about but I think if you took the time to research my posts you will see that I'm very willing to help someone out, especially new members.

Or do you want to talk about the time you laughed at me when I brought up corrosion between dissimilar metals? To which you laughed and said wasn't possible.

1) It's not contradictory. If it takes a month to sell for (less than) 5 dollar profit it's a waste of his time.

2)I laugh and I continue to laugh because it's bullcrap. You might not know it's bullcrap but it's bullcrap. Steel gonna fuse to aluminum? Bullcrap. Steel gonna fuse to steel in a period of time between rotation and/or removing winter wheels? Also bullcrap. So...

This type of attitude (attempting to talk down to people for NO reason doesn't need to be me) might fly where you live and who you deal with but it ain't gonna fly with me. You definitely ain't gonna be talking down to me freely.

Don't confuse talking down to with just plain being incorrect like in your 2nd point above.

Your lack of willingness to accept new knowledge, such as the issue of galvanic corrosion which you claim is "bullcrap" just goes to show how arrogant and bull headed you are.

you can't talk corrosion to someone with a location in the mojave. corrosion does not exist there so in his mind corrosion does not exist at all.

as far as 5 bucks for scout. i know him pretty well. he has been to my home a couple times and i have been to his. also had lunch a few times. pretty sure he can afford them and didn't buy them to make money. what do you get for 5 bucks? often times not very much so if he picked up a nice set of workers for 5 bucks, good for him. i think last time we ate his meal was over 5 bucks. go **** in some other thread man.

I think the OP did great for five bucks, I've never seen kmart wrenches before and I collect tools. I've also seen corrosion between dissimilar metals before , a couple of examples that come to mind is 1 a galvanized supply ****** screwed into copper fitting only 10 years old had holes corroded right through. Also aluminum patches with steel pop rivets for auto body repair.
