Hi Everyone,

We picked up a 15HP Kaeser 3 phase compressor. Currently i runs only if i push in the contactor on the left it works no problem. See attached photos for both the model and SN, also the contactor. The start button does not work, also once it hits the cycle limit it will not restart without me pushing that "contactor" in again

Currently we are using a Phase Shifter for the 1Ph to 3PH, i am thinking this is causing some of the issues. Could not find anyone doing it this way, mainly VFD conversion.

My plan of attack would be to power down the machine and test for continuity across the start button when pressed. Then I'd check all of the safety shutdown to see if there is continuity across them. The I'd check the pressure switch for continuity. I'd also check any timers for proper functioning. I'd check the control voltage transformer for proper output when powered up. I'd power the contactor coils to see if they are pulling in correctly when energized. "West Germany" tells me this machine ain't no spring chicken.

You are also risking an arc fault incident by manually forcing the contactor, FWIW, not that I haven't done the same.

An electrical diagram is really needed to properly troubleshoot.

As above, you need the wiring diagram. The Kaeser compressors in our plant are 3 phase wye / delta starting. Identify how it is configured before going further.

If what you are calling a phase shifter is a rotary or static converter then make sure that your control wiring is NOT on the generated leg. The generated leg will droop when starting and not have the energy to close and hold in the contactors.
