Long time lurker, very infrequent poster. OK, not that long.

Lived in Alaska and never had a decent garage, all my work was in the dirt (and snow) or a friends borrowed garage. Having worked in a professional garage and a helicopter hangar, this really bothered me. Our next house will be better!
(I said that the last time we bought a house too!)

Well, we landed in Central Oregon, wound up with a much larger and nicer house than we were looking for with a smaller an not as nice shop as I was looking for. Pickings were pretty slim (as it turns out Christmas isn't a good time to house shop, for more than one reason) but we're happy with what we have. 1 acre in the woods, 1800sf ranch house and a 32x36 unfinished pole barn.

Part of the purchase agreement was pouring a slab (existing was dirt/gravel floor).

Panaramic shot makes it look funky, and way bigger than real life. Dont tell that to the ladies.

I sealed it with PS101 siliconate (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E55B8GQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20), Future me will have to evaluate that decision.

I thought about epoxys alot, and have worked on them in the past. They look pretty, they clean up nice.
My issues are that sometimes they're slippery, and they're not as durable as the concrete they're applied to. I smash things, drop things, innapropriatly move big jagged metal things, swing floorjacks, place jackstands, grind, weld, burn, and generally mistreat whatever I'm standing on. I dreaded tip-toeing around on a new floor waiting for the inevitable blemish, which would undoubtedly make me hate the floor forever. Which I would, because I'm damn sure not putting more money and effort into that stupid thing after it failed already, which means I have to look at my stupid mistake forever.

Thats my painted floor rant. thanks, I'm done now.

So I stuck with natural concrete, more or less.

Well, I've never lived within driving distance of a Harbor Freight. My wife can tell a story about me driving by one and getting all giddy.... she made me turn around (which I never do) and go back and spend money there. That was when it wasn't just long distance, we had to get customs clearance just to shop at HF. (thats a lie, I made it up).

Muhahahahahaaa!!!!......

My credit card was blindsided. Like woke up in an unfamiliar place wondering what happened kind of blindsided. hehehe....

My wife and myself like to call ourselves 'cheapasses'. Because we're cheap. We shop at thrift stores, rumage sales, buy stuff off people on the street cheap. including food. Mexican street cart food is some of the best stuff I've ever had. I'd pay many dollars for what they sell for less than many dollars if only I didn't have to go all the way to mexico for it. Delicious.

moving sale score, $70 + $20, delivered to the shop! Awesome because all I had to move stuff was a subaru and a vanagon, and I don't want a greasy engine hoist on my bed in the Van!

Of course, we need some lighting....

I missed the 29.99 coupon, they were sold out at the time. I got them for 39.99 and then when they dropped to 34.99 last week I got them to price match for me. Love Costco.

So more about my cheapassedness... (if that word doesn't exist just roll with it)

Scored these at an estate sale... $200 for 2 benches and work stools (look new, no evidence of use anywhere).
I'm trying to find an 11' wide bench that can span them and make a nice work surface for me.

Last thing before I had to go back to work, $3 for this set of bins. Hung them on the wall right before I left.

I dont know....going from dirt to 1 acre in the woods, nice ranch house, and an "unfinished" 32x36 (too small?) looks like a pretty sweet deal to me. I would figuratively kill for something like that.
