Hello all,

I wanted to follow up on a GJ giveaway -- the boss is cool with the idea and supports a GJ members-only giveaway.

We value the opinions and feedback of the GJ community. We invite those who have and use Facebook to check us out on there. If Facebook isn't your cup of tea, we respect that too and henceforth will not initiate FB related topics on GJ.

Back to the GJ giveaway ... I am putting together some tools (Gedore, Knipex, Wiha, and Wera) and hope to have the details (and photos) posted by tomorrow evening.

After receiving our largest Wiha shipment ever today (56 boxes), I say it's time for a beer.

Cheers,

Jordan

I don't think you will be disappointed....and a very big thanks from the GJ !! Look forward to the details.

AFor all you Grumpy Old Men that do not understand the power of social media get over yourself

Correction:

For all you clueless FB drones that have no idea how you're being manipulated and used, stop drinking the kool-aid long enough for your brain to clear a little.

Ahh. If you were to actually read about the study they ran on users, you would find that the cohen's d value was so small that while the results were statistically significant, they had no realistic effect on people.

But that would require you to stop mindlessly following and believing the mainstream media, and all the stupid hype it creates.

Ironic, isn't it?

Okay, you might need a little background in psych and stats too.

What part of that ^^ made any sense at all? It's like you took catch-phrases and soundbites you've heard pumped into your head, then you vomit them out here to create a perfect casserole of nonsense.

Ladies and gentlemen........in true form........we have a facebook user.......ta da.

Respectfully.

Actually, it doesn't make sense to you only because you do not understand basic statistical language.

Let me put it lay terms. If results of a study are statistically significant, then there is a very low possibility that it was just random chance that gave you the results you have. However , just because something is statically significant, does not mean it has a major or even perceivable (without math to show it) effect on the real world. Cohen's d value looks at what the actual effect on the real world is. A small cohen's d number means next to no effect.

For example, having certain types of birds does increase your risk of getting cancer. The p-value for some studies has been 0.0001 or lower (which means that there is an actual relationship, and it wasn't just caused by chance). However, when looking at cohen's d value, you will find that you shouldn't be concerned about getting cancer just because you have a bird, because the actual increase in risk is incredibly minimal (somewhere in the range of 0.0003-0.0004% increased risk). Cohens value balances the increased risk with the statically significance to give one number that tells you how worried you should actually be by a relationship. In the case of the Facebook study, cohens d value was so small, which means that it really had almost no effect on anyone.

That, of course, isn't the best explanation. If it still sounds confusing, start taking some basic statistics courses, and you'll understand better.

Nope.....still not gettin' it.

Regurgitating what you read in a book somewhere doesn't make you clever....it shows you don't have the capacity for original thought.

An unoriginal facebook user.......not a surprise.

I'm done here, but it doesn't mean I don't like you.

Funny how these things always turn into these petty arguments.

You dont like facebook, ok, shut up about it. No need to put down those who do.

Thank you.

Also, thanks to Jordan for talking to the boss about a GJ only contest. Will the FB contest still go on?

All of the unimaginative people who think you have to tell the truth to open a Facebook account... *sigh*

I'd like to point out to you that any and ALL online presences including yours here at GJ has the same end goal and that is to generate revenue through advertisements to the users. I am okay with that because after all, they are supplying me with a product that I enjoy using and all they ask for in return is a few inches of my viewable screen.

Additionally, the only data they can mine from you is the info you supply them with. As has been proven here on GJ many times , peoples privacy is usually not nearly private as they think even after they 'sterilize' their posts. Its shocking how much a complete stranger can find out about you by simply following your trail through different online forums.

I use Facebook to keep in touch with friends and family. I follow a few companies I like, and my celebrities are mostly limited to people like Adam savage, Neal boortz, and mike Rowe although I also like Jason statham.

You can embrace technology and use it without being a 'drone'. Just as easily you can reject it and easily be more vulnerable to it. I bet you don't think twice about Google or those fancy apps on your phone. Most of those allow you to be tracked, and unless you have specifically gone in and turned many of the convenience features off you are being tracked. You're not safe simply because you don't use Facebook. I can prove it to you if you would like, and I **** at digging into peoples privacy.

Finally, whining because you exclude yourself from a contest, really? Really? If you don't like it, move on. There's no need to condemn a supporter of this site simply because you don't like their marketing strategy. Grow up.

you guys are a bunch of whiners, entering a contest is not a right, its an opportunity. If you don't have FB don't enter.

They are running a drawing just for GJ, I do not see any reason to complain.

Every complainer on this thread should be withdrawn from the GJ drawing.

This probably isn't the place but some of you really need to get some more info on social marketing before you post about how worthless a facebook contest is for a company like KC Tool. 1000 actual, real likes is actually quite a big deal in terms of social marketing. Liking a company (by real people) has an exponential effect. Likes also effect which ads pull up for certain users and effect things like search results and sponsored ads. It makes sense. You just don't understand the game.

Hi All,

I really just want to enter the raffle ...without having to join FB to do it.

Why I don't want to join FB is not relevant and I am sure nobody really cares...

Seems that I will not be able to participate in this one.

And I refer you to post 52 as ONE example...

...but I will cease and desist further comments since I don't mean to hijack this thread.

THANK YOU to KC Tools Gedore for offering an alternate option! Good luck to everyone who entered via EITHER method.

A company like this doesn't get my contact details from me liking their post. They get awareness of other users by me liking their post. Who gives a **** if the information used to create the account is authentic. Someone is seeing their post and some other posters are seeing it because I liked it. It is an awareness game. They aren't getting a customer list from this.

Think of it more as a flyer inside a magazine you subscribe to. You read/see the flyer when it falls out. Even if your name is Joe and the magazine was sent to a guy named Freddie.
