I got this tool with some other items at a garage sale a while back and have been unsuccessful in finding anything on the web that lists its purpose. It seems it might hold shock absorber studs - as that term shows up in a google search for an ebay listing which has now expired - but even it seemed to be an uncertain use. It has 2 different sleeves with oval openings and they are mounted 90° to each other - I believe the openings are the same size - and their mounting position is adjustable, as there is a hex screw in each sleeve that allows removal/rotation.

Are you sure both openings are the same size? It's not listed in my 2002 KD catalog but, the openings are double D type which are normally used to hold the shock rod while losening the nut.
Ok - I took my caliper and measured the openings - they aren't the same.
The chrome "socket" measures .322 inside diameter, with the double D width of .227.
The oxide "socket" measures a slightly larger diameter, .332 and a double D width of .255.
