KD Tool #245

I've been a long time lurker on this site. I'm finishing up the cleaning of an estate and have found a bunch of old tools, some of which I'm not really certain what they were used for. If the members don't mind I'll be asking for assistance in identifying some of the mystery tools and what value if any they might have.

To start with tonight, this Has #245 KD Tools & Made in USA cast in the ends. It appears to be some sort of valve spring compressor but for what I don't know.

TIA for any info.

come to think of it, i betcha a cup of coffee that it's also used on a lincoln V12 flathead

Thanks, I appreciate the info.

I note you emphasized "lifter". While I've worked on some L heads and F heads inline 4's and 6's, I'm not familiar with the Ford flathead V8, I'm trying to visualize how this would work. Guess I'll have to look up some pictures.

there are at least 3 different style tools that do this job.
i dont have that one, but i have 2 other styles.
a quick search shows how its used

and to the ******** flathead fans or our northern neighbors. yes i know that ford still used the flathead V8 in the 1954 ford cars

I note you emphasized "lifter".

I believe a compressor would squeeze both ends of the spring together while a lifter prys only one end.

Now I understand how it can be used. I found another. Any demand for these? Or just a cool tool for the collection?

Actually in Canada Ford made the flathead as late as 1966. Not sure if it was made later or not. Same with Australia.

The flathead was made as late as 1990 in France for military trucks. Later French blocks have some improvements over US blocks.

It is used as shown to release keepers and get valve spring out. It is also used in a slot in the bottom of the valve guide (just above where shiny valve stem vanishes into darkness) to pull guide downward, necessary for removal of the valve assembly '32-48.
IMHO, the KD bar shown, the mighty KD puller to force guide up and out, and the punches for driving stuck guides (that means all of them, generally) down so they can be released and hauled out the top by the puller are the best of the flathead valve tools, including Snap on and Plomb versions.
They also made tools useful in dealing with the oddball guides used '32-33...
