A local pawn shop has a decent looking 1/2" torque wrench. It's looks older than the KD/Gearwrench models I saw on ebay. I did a search but couldn't find a discussion of KD tools. Thoughts? It's less than $50 btw. Thanks.

Coming from a pawnshop I would not trust it with out it being calibrated so keep that additional cost in mind too.

did it look like one of these? Did it have a black rubber handle, a round ratchet head with like notches around the edges?

If so, it's one of the older model torque wrenches KD made and were sold by Napa and others. It's a good torque wrench but, not worth $50 in my opinion. I think a 30-250 foot pounds model went for fifty brand new. Shop around, you can do better. However, a used torque wrench is a gamble because you never know its history or if it was used properly, and until you get it calibrated who knows how accurate it is.

My opinion is PASS on used torque wrenches, alot of amatuers use them like breaker bars. Getting them calibrated can to tough, and there is usually no lifetime warranty on them period. Spring for a new one....USA ones can be had for about 100 bucks on sale.
