Keeping birds out

My shop is not finished yet, so it has one open end.

I would like to keep the birds out of it.

I know I need to do bird netting on the ceiling but I can't look up for very long without losing my balance, so I gotta have help.

Do the reflective things work. I have even seen suggestions of old CDs hung from the front of the building.

BTW it is completely open in front.

So other than the bird netting what works

Shotgun? Half a dozen cats?

I had a neighbor use a couple of the plastic owls mounted on the horizontal of his trusses. Another idea could be the garage door screen, depending on size & current use of the area to cover.

Best of luck!

We have a military surplus store in town, They always have these huge mosquito netting for 10.00 each, They would keep the birds out, We sewed a couple together to keep the birds from eating our fruit from the tree's.

Fake owls generally don't work. Owls don't prey on birds. Get a fake hawk.

I don't want punch holes in my steel siding.

Here is the shop

Got some stuff in it now though.

Like I said physical limitations keep me from looking up for long enough to staple something to the trusses.

No one use the prismatic tape I see advertised?

It's robins and starlings I believe. We have quite a few Hawks around so the fake Hawks might be a good idea.

Not very many bats here either.

I haven't tried this, but I've heard that if you hang a bunch of CD's from the ceiling, the shiny twirling action keeps them out. But, I've only heard this and not tried it.

The wide open side of the building is a natural invitation for pesky creatures to come and live with you, and the accumulating poop will be a real problem. Once you decide what to use, hire someone to install it for you.

If you have trusses, you can run chicken wire on top of the trusses but you have to notch it wherever it has to go around a joint. That would let you do it from above until you get to the last bit, which you can fold down and staple from underneath. I may do this in my indoor arena; not for birds but for raccoon and opossums.

Why not just put up with the birds until you get the front on the building? Is it going to be open for quite a while or just until the weather breaks for you?

Birds will build nests on bird spikes. If you do not have any birds nesting or living in there yet, you have a "low pressure" issue and need only nominal deterrent. By the picture, it appears that you have just a few trusses with few braces. If that is correct, then you need to only work on the beams that they can land and walk on. Professional supplies will include thin SS Cable attached to eyelets just above and lengthwise along the beams. This discourages them from landing and walking. You can use other supplies, like safety wire and bent nails to do it on the cheap. Should be centered over the wood beam about chest level of the size of bird you want to keep off. Small diameter so they can't use it to perch on and strung very tight. Or if you want the pricey method, we service $4k micro misters that spray a $250 per gal chemical that makes birds violently puke. They don't stay around this very long at all.

Finish the building the shop!

Our other house is for sale. As soon as it sells it will be getting finished.

I have three trucks in there now.

Also the birds distract my cats from the voles I want them to be killing
