I have a 14' ceiling and have been getting bids from HVAC contractors to put in a furnace/AC. Wanting to keep the floor space as clear as possible so called out hanging the HVAC. Have gotten comments that hanging adds a bunch of cost - labor mostly I think. I have a sort of mezzanine that is 8 x 8 ft and at 8' high above one corner that has the half bath and shop sink. Today the guy suggested putting it on the mezzanine. Right where he wanted to put it already will have some things and it isn't really central. But I can easily build a 30" wide shelf on the outside wall between the mezzanine and another interior wall. It hadn't occurred to me to do this but it seem obvious now. It also keeps the filter a little lower and easier to change.

you can hang it from the ceiling or get a package unit and put it outside on a cement pad and the duct work up the side of the bldg.
