Nice shop/garage...never saw one with a pool table...cool.

Thanx! This is an area of 18' x 30' inside of my 30' x 50' stick built barn,
I centered the room over the pit....[which is the area under the diamond
plate covers on the floor]…..pit is 3.5' wide x 6' dp x 22' long!

We call it the SANCTUARY.....never like the term "mancave"

2 years ago I added a dehumidifier to the garage to make it a bit more comfortable in the summer and reduce the rust risk (probably not necessary in NH climate). Prior to that, I would go through the garage with the shop vac every month or so sucking up the bugs, spider webs and the like. To my pleasant surprise, I've had almost no bugs since I setup the dehumidifier.

Our garage is relatively well sealed including using the green hinges on the overhead doors. We also have a pest control company that sprays twice a year.

Weekly blow outs with the leaf blower or air nozzle.

My tips are keep the exposed stuff to a minimum, most of my stuff is hidden inside cupboards. Once my off-road truck is able to be driven in and out then it’s gonna be even cleaner!

For bugs I use those small sticky traps at the front and back of the garage. It helps keep it much cleaner, but I also spend time sweeping it out frequently. It's a constant battle.

I kept my garage clean for the first year till I started working on my project 50 chevy truck. Between grinding welds, the mud stuck to the inside of the fenders and undercarriage, and cutting out all the rust, plus the need to put the removed pieces somewhere it has gotten out of hand. I am finishing the patch panels, soon as they are done the garage gets cleaned out and swept etc.

Similar to what others have mentioned, my version...

Mice: I use these traps; they work pretty well. I have probably 10 setup in all the common locations - by all doors and common runs along the walls. Just gotta get them before they reproduce and establish colonies that will chew up everything. I also started another thread on somewhat backfilling the outside of my barn with sand to try to prevent mouse incursion under the walls. I wouldn't go very high up the walls, but at least filling up to bottom of the walls seems to have helped a lot.

Bugs: I'm in a semi-desert environment so we have scorpions and black widows, among other "joys". Every 2-3 months during the hotter times of year, I run around the barn and house with a granular insecticide like this, followed by spraying a couple feet up the walls/foundations/door openings with a pump sprayer filled with a mixure of this. Since doing this on a regular basis, I've seen absolutely nothing... other than dead "food source" insects like beetles.

Dust: I have a modified HF dust collector/thien baffle setup (pretty popular mod; just Google it) plumbed to most of my stationary tools. Works pretty well, but you will still get dust. As others have mentioned, I usually blow out my shop each spring with a leaf blower. It's makes a huge dust cloud (wear a mask), but this annual cleanup helps.

I love my battery powered leaf blower for this use. 2 seconds to drop a battery in it, then it blows everything out quickly. I have a big fan I put in the door on exhaust while I do this to handle the dust.

An old shop trick to handle dust on the floor is to keep some sawdust around in a bucket. Sprinkle a cup of water into it, then sprinkle the damp sawdust all over the floor. Sweep it up and it will pull up all the fine dust with it. You can re-use the sawdust a dozen times before you need new, just keep it slightly damp.

For spiders I paint the walls with good quality semi-gloss paint. Spiders love the flat, cheap, builder spec paint contractors use. It cut my spider population by about 90%.

How do you keep your garage clean from dirt/dust/spiders/rats/other rodents?

Dirt:
I use a robot vacuum (2 actually). Every time I'm in the shop, I empty one, start one, charge one.

Dust:
I have ductless splits that have filters, but I also have a dedicated air filter.

Spiders / Bugs:
Commercial pesticide. Apply to the outside of the building perimeter, 4x a year. Inside of the building - all baseboards, about the same frequency.

Rats/Rodents - Diligent about sealing all the doors, etc.. Been lucky so far (perhaps) - we also have sticky traps on the corners of every door.

I let the spiders roam free in my garage. Keeps the population of all other insects down. Spiders don't really bother me. My wife hates the fact that when she wants me to kill one I scoop it up and put it in the garage.

Battery powered leaf blower on the floor and walls once a month. I sweep it every time I finish a project or have the cars out.

My shop... as organized as I can get it visually. Even with boxes and labels I'm afraid that I'm so visually oriented that I'd spend half my work time finding the tool I need and the other half trying to remember which drawer it goes back into!! In this forum there seems to be two types of organizers...the **** retentive who hide, box and store everything and the obsessive behaviorally disordered visually oriented like me. I love to display my possessions. I love the attention while others abhor it. Messy and unorganized things give both tbehavioral types headaches...my 2 cents worth. And...by the way, we're hard wired that way...we didn't learn it...it's genetic...one of our parents or grandparents were afflicted the same way! I do woodworking in mine, even with my dust collection everything would get that ultra fine layer of dust no matter what. I now store all my tools in dual 56" top & bottom chests and a cabinet for power tools to keep the dust off of the tools. The rest gets vacuumed anytime i work on a project.

Agreed I start to name the ones that hang around while I’m working. My girlfriend thinks I’m crazy when I tell her to not kill (insert spiders name) and that he’s my garage buddy. But I allow the spiders and that only bugs I get in my garage. Plus I mainly have daddy long legs. I have had one black widow (even though I see a bunch outside) but I think the daddy long legs kill the black widows so I don’t worry about getting bit either.

Every few weeks when the floor starts to get dirty I will sweep it out, I have a long stick in the corner to knock down the few spider webs that show up & that is about it. The garage/shop is our vehicle storage for my Mustang & my wife's Kawasaki Vulcan & work area for whichever vehicle needs work or maintenance. It is nothing fancy, a workbench, a couple toolboxes, engine hoist & stand, some shelf units, air compressor, hose reel, oil storage cans, & a plain unpainted but sealed concrete floor.
