CODE: 6 Flashes
RESULT: Failure to ignite or flame sense lost while running.
FIX: Check for: an ungrounded flame sensor; defective hot surface ignitor; low inlet gas pressure; oxide buildup; manual valve shut off; control ground continuity; inadequate flame carryover; or rough ignition.

Brand new furnace installed today by a very busy reputable contractor in a property I'm working at
Furnace fires for maybe 10 or 15 seconds, shuts down and gives 6 flash error code.
contractor spent over an hour on it. replaced flame sensor, checked gas pressures, checked grounds, replaced gas valve, replaced main board.
at 5 pm I said lets leave it ,we've been there since 7am . no heat overnight is fine as house is vacant. He's suggesting he come back tomorrow & replace the furnace & send this one back for warranty .
Not a rant, just a comment on how a day can go for a contractor . Thats it!

Sometimes the next largest component swap is the quickest and most cost effective solution. In this case the entire unit.

Because 8-10 hours of trouble shooting and part replacing can easily cost more than the wholesale cost of the unit. Depending on the model $600-1200 cost ? Plus maybe the supplier will take the unit back ? Or it ends up in the parts bin, or repaired in the shop where the clock is not ticking so loud.

Yes, he said it will go back, and they will credit him no questions asked. He added that if they ever gave him a hassle on returns, he would go somewhere else to buy. I'm sure no supplier wants to lose a good account , and I suspect he is very respected in that when he says something is bad, it really is.

That's the way it normally works.
