Bought this B331B 3/63 Ser. # N464123 as gov. surplus. Tried it out today and it made pretty loud racket, especially running backward. Started checking into it and found this. Pic is HP piston and cylinder. Is it toast?

Is there any mechanical difference in between a 331 and a 331TV?
Also this one has a 7 1/2 hp motor.

Been reading about some folks using JB Weld or Belzona to fill gouges like this.
Anyone here with any experience in this area?

That's only mostly dead. As Miracle Max said, "I've seen woise."

JHMO, but I've been rebuilding engines for more than fifty years. No pro would ever warranty such a JB Weld bore patch job.

Are oversize pistons and rings available for your pump? If they are, the cost is usually the same for STD or oversize. If not, sleeve it. Sleeves are available in most any diameter and length.

If oversize is available, bore, hone and don't worry. It's better to have a gouge than a questionable patch job, but a sleeve would be the professional way to go.

I had a kellogg 331 compressor the date on the tank said 1951 tank and pump were both orange so I would think that date applied to pump also.it was the quietist compressor I have ever been around,it finally quit I took it apart and found the high pressure piston pin had worked its way into the cylinder wall about 1/4"I could not find a piston or rod anywhere or I would have sleeved the cyl good luck finding any parts
