I always check the tank gauge before throwing the disconnect so I know if the compressor is going to start. It was just below 100psi so it was going to start. Well it didn't. It ran down to 80 before it fired. Shut down was normal. Ran fine for several cycles. Then it ran down to 80 before starting. I dumped the tank and removed the pressure switch. Inspected the contacts and diaphram it all looked good. I cleaned and reinstalled. I did increase the cut in pressure to 120psi. Ran fine for hours and now it is doing it again.
I thought a pressure switch worked or it did not. Any ideas how to repair the switch? The model is 69HA1.
Thanks for any help. Jg

Not sure if you can repair the switch, my old pressure switch did not work so i just replaced it with new because it was just 25 dollars for a new switch and the old one was beat to hell.I think the switch is controlled by spring pressure and yours my have a weak spring causing it to change cut in pressures. I know these pressure switches are really reasonable and if you look on ebay they are priced by how many external ports connect to them.

Sometimes adjusting even new pressure switches can be a major PITA. I have no real content to add other than to advise you to be patient. If you are still unable to achieve desired results, scrap it an buy a new one.

I'm figuring out how much the pressure switch is a pain. I've searched prices and they range from $100-300. It is a single port 145-175 psi. I think I'm going to lube the hinge points. Maybe it is binding. Jg

If decide to buy new, I recommend Condor's line of pressure switches. The have a great product with many options.

Decide to bench test the switch. I found when it is set to cut in at 100psi it would work a couple times then it would drop to 80 before calling for air. Then I increased the cut in to 140 psi and it seems to work properly. Normally I work with 120psi regulated. So a cut in at 140 seems too high. I think the safest solution would be a new pressure switch.

Re: Kellogg American Pressure Switch Malfunctioning "Repaired"

Two trips to the hydraulic shop and two to the industrial pump supply and the compressor is running like new.

The hydraulic shop sells Parker fittings and always everything in stock. Bought the pieces to plumb a new gauge, blow off valve to aide in troubleshooting.

Before I ordered the pressure switch online, I checked the pump supply house. The first switch they brought out was a light duty unit I was wanting to use. I made the comment the one I replacing lasted 40 years and the one one the counter doesn't look like it would last a month. Then the compressor tech came up and said they have an industrial unit they don't many of because of the cost. It was eight dollars more. I walked out with a new pressure switch and a new air filter canister.

Installed all the goodies and checked for leaks. The valve I had leaked through the stem and the pop-off valve leaked too. Thus the second trip.
Total repair $96.00

Thanks for the input on the repair. Jg
