Kennedy Box Repair

I was recently given a Kennedy top and bottom tool box for helping a friend move. Didn't use the box any more and didn't want to move it. They are in good shape with the exception of the top box. The lid stays are broken. I emailed Kennedy but have not received a reply. I was thinking of replacing the stays with small gas springs/struts.
Any thoughts and sources for the replacements would be greatly appreciated.

Some of them will fit, some won't. You'd probably be best making your own out of wood and route the lip or fold/tack together sheet metal.

I keep looking at a sheet of Ali chequer plate that's lying about and wondering whether to guillotine it to size for a door
