I have a couple of Kennedy cantilevered style boxes they're good boxes pretty tough. $200 for those boxes doesn't seem to be a smoking deal but I wouldn't say it's excessive either really depends on how much you like them. I'm sure they will be good boxes if they fit your need.

They look a bit rusty, or is that dirt? Does it have the key, and is the lock totally gone on the riser? Is the felt in the drawers good, and are the drawer slides smooth operating? I paid $35 for a set similar to that at a local garage sale. It was a fellow who buys abandoned storage units so you never know what he might have. I would check on eBay and see what something similar size and condition might have sold for. Actually I see them advertised on Craigslist or FBMP for more than $200 for a pair like that but who knows what they actually sell for.

I have about 6 or 7 of those Kennedy boxes. They are solidly built. I'm surprised they would sell for $200 for the set. I'd try to get them for a little less.

Many years ago, I met a very nice man through his CL ad, and he made me a very good deal on the same set-up as your boxes op; I think I paid him $150.00 dollars for his set. Mind you Kennedy boxes are very well built and if you can still buy any missing parts from them, like missing locks and keys.

$200 is not a smoking deal but it's in the ballpark of a fair deal in my part of central Ahia.

The older boxes have wrinkled paint. Not sure how they did that. The new boxes are textured somehow. Those appear to be the older textured paint. I’ve had good luck with the older boxes. I think they may have been a little heavier duty.

Kennedy sells touch up paint. Its ridiculously expensive, but it’s the only paint I found that matches. Can be worth while if your boxes are rusty.

This looks similar to the machinist box already at $192 (with shipping) with an hour to go.

He is looking at a 526, so bigger.

Depends on where you are, and how good a deal you can stumble on. Not the best price by my standards, but if you aren’t out beating the bushes, you may not get the great ES or GS deals.

Those look pretty rough from here.
There is a nice looking 7 dr chest advertised near me for just a bit more.

If you can use a cantilever box I have a VERY nice one here: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum...nedy-box-clc-bag-3-4-dr-hf-socket-set.528521/

$200 for both? Grap 'um.

"I bought a kennedy toolbox 20 years ago and only paid x$" is meaningless.

Top box and a middle box. Lock has been removed from middle box, but the keys are always missing. The brown paint always looks like ****, (maybe 50 plus years old?) But I like the look of the older kennedys.

The main box, in this case a 520, but also 620 models, can usually be had for $75-$120 locally (at least where I live in the South Bay Area, CA). The difficult one to find is the intermediate box. Those are very rare to find and also fairly expensive new or used.

They shouldn’t be too hard to clean up.. but you could decide on that once you see it in person.

It's not a smoking deal but way better than buying them new.

I don't think garage sale steals make regular used market prices out of line. Depends how you place value on your time I guess.

Did you get them? They look like an older set, which is good. Can tell by the squared off top corners, newer ones are rounded. The new boxes are good, the older boxes are great. They are beefy as hell and if you go through and sort them out, they'll outlast you.

I used to buy and sell toolboxes. I would pay $250 for that set and resell for $400 in 24 hours. I do not like the Kennedy color, but it sells quickly.
I like BEACH machinist toolboxes.

Those would sit for months around here for $250. $400 would be laughable.
I just sold an 80's model roll around and front flip up top box, no mid box, for $350. It wasn't in the greatest shape. I've got 3 other stacks and the lowest will sell for $500. The highest with the 5 drawer box, if I weren't keeping it, I would price around $800 and wait for the price. They eventually go. Moreso than vises. I've been flipping both since I began taking care of my Father 24/7 and am in caregiver prison. I've sold 15-20 Kennedy boxes in the last 2 or 3 yrs and have never asked for or taken less than $100 for any of them. I will say, our market has been somewhat flooded with them the last 2yrs. The mid boxes are still htf, the risers even moreso.

I'm making a tackle box from Pops original little carryInsert around.

That's a pretty fair price for those, the mid-box is hard to find. Kennedy sells the keys in the lock sets for pretty reasonable they're just held with a little spring clip. Around here due to the Auto industry there's a whole lot of machinists and machine shops those boxes are plentiful but they still bring at least $100 for the top and decent condition and like everybody else said the riser box is the hard to find one those usually go for 125 to 150.

What about rollers and where are you located?

Sorry I thought you meant roller bearing slides I realized now you meant roller cabinets. Depending on the age and condition generally between 250 and 350 is what I've been seeing them for. They don't seem to be nearly as common as most Machinists generally had multiple top chests sitting on a table.

It is all supply and demand. USA had more manufacturing than Canada, so the toosl for that trade appear often and at better prices.
. Most of the Canadian manufacturing was in Ontario. The prices in Ontario may be lower than The West Coast, where I live.
Remember, our Canadian dollar is worth 68 cents USD.

Kennedy in general has made the same machinist tool for very many years. In locations like Southern California that used to have more aerospace and machinist employment than today, there is an excess of Kennedy tool boxes in the local marketplace. Old machinists passing on has also added used market pressure. I have bought and sold a number over the years. Nice 520 tool chests usually sell for $75. Model 526’s were usually around $100. MC26 middle chests usually sold for $60-$75.
