I am looking to buy this Kennedy lower cabinet for sale locally for $250, but am wondering if it has ball bearing glides or not. I'm a bit away from the seller and I don't have the money until Friday when my tax return hits. He doesn't know if it has bearing glides or not. Does anyone here know? Thank you!

Although the ones I have are older, they have friction slides. They are a better slide than most and about every drawer I have on the verge of overloaded and they are fine. I'm going to say with 95% certainly they are friction.

Those are well built boxes, they are all friction slides.
I would say $250 is top dollar on that unit

Looks like a modern box that can be ordered either way. 97% chance they are friction.

Can he just send a pic of the slide?

Ok, I'm retarded. Mine has a different layout. But, I think my top box has those same depth drawers (eyeballing distance above and below handle) and they are 1-7/8" in the clear.

Mostly basics and BLS stuff in here, lot's of staple and suture work and removal stuff. ENT, intravenous, some ALS.

I've had these boxes in the shop before. They are definitely beefcake. Not ****** by any means. They are no Lista/Vidmar, but no one is expecting that either. When cleaned and lubed they are great. I wouldn't do a whole drawer of 3/4 sockets though...

For a box that size I'd rather have friction slides. Kennedy uses some real firm detents on their ball bearing slides and you'll shake up your tools every time you open a drawer.

The seller has it at $300 or best offer. I was going to see if he'd take $250. Do you guys think that's a decent deal. I'm assuming that the friction slides on these are fairly decent then?

Music, what part of the country are you in? Price kinda determined by that...

I've bought full height Vidmars for $50. But I'm in tool heaven in SoCal....

Looks like a big MAC top box on the ground.

If you have room explore the option of the HF 44. Probably double the SF of storage for another $150 or whatever (don't they go on sale for $400?), BB drawers, brand new, no cleaning, no rust, no ********, no haggling, etc. (Just an idea)

I'd happily give $250 for that box. Looks like it is in nice shape. The 7 drawer ones are a bit harder to find used and.

That's a big first aid kit:lol_hitti:lol_hitti

I've got a similar Kennedy lower (the three drawer version, but also friction slides), a Waterloo lower (also three drawers), and a really big Homak lower, all of which were originally hospital crash carts.

edit:
And just an hour ago, buying something on CL, I saw a similar looking (same aluminum pulls) Kennedy bottom in wrinkle brown with ball bearing slides. It's the first ball bearing Kennedy I've seen, and the handles work a bit like the Craftsman Grip-Latch. Really sweet box.

I'm in Idaho, near Spokane Washington. I might just keep looking.

I've found that the North West has higher prices and less selection of used equipment than some other parts of the country. That's on the high end, but you may not have many other options, especially if you're looking at US made boxes. Spokane is pretty isolated, and there's not much of a manufacturing base - but I get you can get a great deal on used combines!

I saw that ad the other day- I am in Bend, and spend time in CDA. I would keep looking. Around here in Oregon, we can buy a 44" used HF in excellent condition, for $200. With the new deeper HF boxes just starting to come out, the old 44"ers should be showing up more often. I like that Kennedy box, but not compared to the double wide HF at $200, used. Prices do seem to be a bit higher up there, than here.

Note: I just looked at the ad again, and that is only a 26" wide box- they do make a wider box, which would be a better deal.

I just turned down a brown wrinkle 7 drawer Kennedy roller, last week, for $100.

Really? Assuming good condition that's a steal! I've noticed lately people are pricing Kennedy boxes as if they're worth their weight in gold!

As for the OP's box, $250 seems a little high but all dependant on the market where you're at.

I had one just like that and they were ball bearing sliders. Also the drawers were repositional so you could arrange them to your liking. Mine had red smooth finish not the wrinkle paint.

Well built boxes but weak bottom. Don't try to roll them around a lot with heavy load of tools.

The higher end models like the 3407X will have full length U shaped channels welded to the bottom of the box for the castors to bolt to; this increases the strength significantly.

I have a Kennedy 295B (29" wide) and that thing is a tank. One of the deeper drawers is loaded with 200+ lbs of steel and the friction slides hold up great. On it have a 3 drawer mid box, an 11 drawer machinist chest, and a side locker with 2 shelves, all loaded down.

Pushed it all over a fairly smooth concrete floor for 5 years at old job and no buckling of bottom side. I'd guess every move was 1/4 mile, sometimes 2-3x a day.

Just watch out for air hoses on the floor...Nothing like box coming to instant stop and slamming your groin into the handle...

My only regret was I'd rather have the 297B, as the storage compartment on bottom of my 295B is a junk magnet more than useful space, but I got the whole rig for dirt cheap so I can't complain too much.
