Hey guys and gals Im hoping you can help me figure out the model numbers of this set, and less importantly an estimated value.
The only things I really know are its a Kennedy from the 80s or 90s(maybe older),has friction slides and everything works it just needs a little tlc.
(EDIT)Found out today that he thinks he got them in 87. That could be a little off though.
(EDIT 2) Found out the stack is most likely a 266 top,262 mid, and a 275/295 bottom (Thanks Jake for the catalog) I still dont know the side/small roller

A little back story if you're interested. The stack belongs to my step-dad who used it at home building a few dirt track race cars and maintaining their cars and motorcycles. Unfortunetly for the last 10 years he's had Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and has been in a power chair for a while. We tried to buy him a Husky bench to store these tools just to see if he'd try and use them if they were easier to get to, but he cant use his hands very well and doesn't even go near them anymore.
Im trying to find the model numbers in case I need to replace anything on them. I would like to clean the set up and try and sell it for them. I hate having to store it in my trailer with my extra stack I would like to see it back in the hands of a person thats going to use it.

Before you tell me to keep it I cant I dont have the room, my box is already in their garage with his Husky and Versa Cart he used at work.

Model numbers really aren't all that important, especially on kennedy boxes. They have pretty much made the same style or a version of it since the 50s.

The bottom and side are the newest. The top looks pretty rough (distorted). They all need a cleaning. Ask $300 and see what you get. Dirty friction slide boxes are a demand minority anymore.

The following thread has a link in the first post that will take you to a PDF of the 1992 Kennedy catalog. You should find your model numbers there.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=244852

Thanks Jake that helped me find the models for everything but the side
which I think is actually a small roller cab Ive found a picture of one other one but it was brown and on an auction so there was no info on it.

They were all purchased together and my mom said closer to '87.
I plan on cleaning and trying to repair everything even the slides and lubing them with wax. Thanks for letting me know they dont change much though.

I only have one Kennedy tool box, but that was pretty cool to flip through! Thanks for the heads-up!

Be sure to post the numbers and the picture you found from the auction. I know you're just doing your own research to sell them, but down the line other people doing THEIR research are going to find this thread, and your information will be helpful.

There weren't any numbers from those auction(s) and they were long over with.
The only thing it had was the dimensions.

I would say $300 for the way they are, with some work depending on how well they clean up and the drawers work, $500 or maybe a little better.

Check out the Accessory Catalog in the same post for more boxes. The side cabinets might be found in there.

The bottom should be an older 295R, 29 indicating their goofy 29" wide box, 5 indicating the drawer count and R indiciating red of that time.

Middle 262R

Top 266R

Side 202R I think

jmho on used price. list prices will be muuuch higher

And lets not forget, that kennedy boxes have about the worst used value of any box out there. And those boxes don't have the updated snap in drawer slides that the newerboxes have. Not bad boxes, just things to keep in perspective.

Yes, agree, as compared to Snap-On, MAC, Matco, Cornwell.

No, they're better quality and worth more than most anything else out there and certainly better than most of today's Chicom big box store crappage. Generations of professional machinists have worked a lifetime out of Kennedy boxes.

Maybe it's that this stack doesn't visually present as well as an equivalent vintage truck box set. MAC, especially, did a nicely styled triple stack.

Agree, it's going to require cleaning (wash, scrub, then wipe down with WD40), good photos and accurate description (suggest using the verbage from the Kennedy catalog) and patience to get more than the $250-$350 range suggested here.

If you can use them yourself or another family member can. I would just hang on to them they are great boxes just like most tool boxes have very poor resale not just Kennedy I see Mac Snapon Matco, stay on cl listed for half or less of what they are off the truck.

Those are the models I was thinking to I just havent had a chance to measure the bottom to see if its the 27in or 29in. As for the side I was thinking that also just going by the way the models numbers work I just cant find anything that supports it.

Wish I could use them they are nice boxes but I have a 52in in the garage with his 46in and his versa cart so theres not any more room thats why this stack is in my trailer with my 26in stack.
I know tool boxes have crappy resale and Im not looking to get a ton out of them just wanted to have a starting point for after theyre cleaned up. I just want my folks to get a fair price and them to go to someone that will use them.

Those 2 top boxes are what I bought (mine are brown) to replace a 10 drawer Craftsman Top that became too heavy to be moved unless you removed 2 drawers. Which was impractical for taking to the track regularly... so I "moved up"

I never got the bottom (I have one now, all drawers, that I bought used, but it's an earlier Kennedy and the drawer pulls don't match...

Value is tough. Kennedy's don't generally get a lot of respect on the used market, but are great boxes and better than most friction slide boxes.

Box value is also area specific. have you looked at local CL listings to at least see what the competition is asking? (they may not get it, but it a starting point)

that's true.
the guys that will want that are machinists and guys that really know tools & tool boxes.
on CL a harry homeowner will not know the name kennedy.
most auto techs/body guys dont either.
i aint making that up. in my shop w/ 8 body guys i bet maybe only 1 or 2 know what a kennedy box is.

so, your buying audiance is small.
i should think $200 to $300 could get it sold.
of course that could depend on the jobs/industry(workers) in your area

I have looked at CL but in my area the prices vary alot and most people dont describe things very well. Ive seen a Kennedy thats basically the same minus the mid and side and the person was asking $850(still hasnt sold that I know of). Ive also seen just rollers for anywhere from $200 to $500 so I dont think people know what to price them at.

Just a small update. Well I found some things out. This thread was almost for nothing because this stack unlike his versa cart still has the model numbers in all the boxes even the side. I cleaned it up a bit just with soapy water and a brush, wiped it with wd40, and cleaned and waxed the slides. I will get some updated pics and the model numbers hopefully today.

I paid some guy $250 for the top chest and bottom roller cabinet shown (w/o the added side hang-on cabinet) about a year ago. They looked almost unused.

I have several Kennedy boxes, chests, and roller cabinets. They are excellent quality, and surprisingly inexpensive on the used market.

Yes. But I thought you understood that there is a small appliqué inside one of the drawers that has the model number.

I did know that the numbers were supposed to be there. When I posted the thread I didnt have access to check the drawers and I assumed because the labels were removed from his versa cart that they would be missing on this stack as well.
Now that I have them I will post photos of them to hopefully help others.
