Well, that is cheap, however. That box is very, very common and for the most part reasonable priced used. It is a small box, 20" wide by 10" deep. I'm not saying don't buy it, but I bet one in great shape will come along in the near future. Kennedy boxs seem to be the most under valued boxes on cl. I bought mint roller from the 50's for $60. There is a newer 7 drawer roller on cl by me right now in good shape for $150. If it said craftsman on the guy would be asking $500 for it.

Whats it got in it? Ive had quite a few of them and never paid more than $20, usually for the tools inside. Beyond that, what are you planning to use it for? These are machinist boxes, very tinny and light compared to a mechanic's box.

As a FYI - thats a model 520 and they still make it, so parts can be had but from Kennedy theyre pricey.

Depends on what you want to use it for. I have owned 2 of them. They are very sturdy, well built little boxes. Emphasis on little. The shallow drawers are kind of a pain, but what really bothered me was the tiny drawer pulls. The box and slides could handle the weight of a full drawer, but those drawer pulls were just a pain.

You may want to check this out, however I have never had much luck with those "Make me an offer" types. But it is a much larger, sturdier box than the kennedy.

As for finding a front cover and top handle? Handle would probably be easy to find on ebay. The front cover, well I think someone is sitting on a big lot of them. Lots of used boxes are missing their front cover. Not really a big deal, unless you plan to move the box alot, as it keeps the drawers from sliding out.

probably find a better deal. But honestly, all my Kennedys- I have never put that cover back on. They get slipped in and stay there. (Assuming yours will be stationary). Yard sales are tough to beat.

Great for small machinist tools, rulers, pens/pencils, etc. Not good for a mechanic set.

I plan on using it for machinist tools (rules, protractors, etc.) Does anyone know how old it is?

It's old, probably 60's but not real old. The older ones have square corner tops instead of rounded/rolled.

Finding a cover is unlikely. Felt condition is important too. If you were close I would sell you this one LOL. It's the older square top with leather handle.

For $8 you did fine.

Felt you can get at any fabric store.

Handle almost anywhere.

As mentioned the Front Cover is the hardest. Kennedy probably sells replacements, but also as mentioned probably pricy...

1/4or 5/16ths ply,you will need a lip on the bottom, and some holes on top for the locking pins. If you're stationary use only, don't even bother with a cover. If you have occasion to move it once in a blue moon, either plastic wrap it, or tape some cardboard to the front.

You could dedicate such a box to hobby work inside (great for modeling), or for single purpose like all your electrical terminals and such.
