As this is my first post here in a regular forum, please excuse any newbieness in the post.
Cleaning up the garage a bit, thought I would share the story of my only Kennedy roll away set up.
As a slightly younger man, I would frequent the swap meets regularly. First acquisition was a top box , model 526, $25, with key. A few months later, 2 drawer middle chest MC 28 was found for $10, with key. The final piece of the puzzle was laying on its back in the back of a metal recycler's truck about a year ago, headed for scrap. I asked him to name his price. When he told me $20, my jaw dropped. Model 297.
All boxes are in good condition with only minor paint loss on the top box.......
I am looking for a few keys and parts for it, there is a post in the Classified section if anyone is interested in looking.......

I keep seeing Kennedy boxes for sale at low prices on Craigslist. I think they get passed around and people just don't know what they are worth. Granted, I have not seen any that cheap.

Did you call Kennedy to get the parts you want they may still have them new and they aren't too bad on prices like some others.

You can just pull the clip off the locks,Go to Home depot and buy the locks with all the same key.I dont like having multiple keys for the same box that I am working out of.

I have done it a few times with those style locks.

I haven't seen the style on the right at the hardware stores. The roll cabs, side cabs, and some of the center sections use this style of lock. The generic ones like on the left work on small center sections and top chests.

Yep, you ****! That's a nice looking setup. I especially like your persistence in the hunt on a budget! That's the part I enjoy.

yes, brilliant deal.
An old friend swears he bought a snap-on box from the back of a scrapyard truck but I never believed him until now...

My first toolbox was a Kennedy top box. My then girlfriend, now wife of 35 years gave it to me for Christmas in 1971. Came from 2 Guys of Harrison, long since defunct, and cost I believe around fifty bucks which wasn't exactly chicken scratch in those days. I used to carry the box around in the back of my 68 F-100 between side jobs and I remember one day getting home from a job around midnight and finding the tail gate down on the pick-up and no tool box in the bed. I quickly retraced my steps and found my toolbox in the middle of the intersection a block from my house. The lock sprung and my tools were scattered all over the street. I collected all my gear and loaded it back into the pick-up. I still use the box today as a top box on my snap-on boxes. Has a few dents and more than its share of scratched but it still functions like the day it was new. I'd like to see a new Craftsman box take that kind of punishment and still be useable.

I picked up an 8 drawer top Kennedy and a 2 drawer middle box at a garage sale for $20 for both. My mother called me and said a guy was selling his toolboxes and if I wanted them to get down there. She told me that the only thing that was wrong was the guy wrote his name on the box....Kennedy !!!!!:lol_hitti She also told me he had some real nice "C" clamps but they were sold by the time I got there. She couldn't figure out why they had numbers on them. 0-6" mics went for $20.

Borrego...I'll check all my Kennedy keys when I go to work Thursday. I may also have three sets of locks that are keyed the same. Not sure though as I have sold my Kennedy boxes and roll-a-rounds. If I have three, you are welcome to them.

That top box was my first toolbox as a Diemaker Apprentice back in 1979. My son has it now in his garage. My Kennedy bottom box, acquired at the same time, followed me around the plant for the next 30 years, and picked up a few modifications along the way-1/4" steel plates top and bottom, 6" casters, and a wilton vice and a Ridgid pipe vice on the top.

Very nice find at a price that almost none of us will ever experience. Although, I do have a twin of your top box. I acquired it the old fashioned way...I inherited it
