I bought an old Kennedy tool cabinet about a year ago; tucked it away until I had time to work on it.
Yesterday I noticed that when CLOSED, the drawers are recessed about 5/8” from the front of the cabinet. To be clear: when closed, all the drawers push in past the front of the cabinet, and stop when recessed about 5/8”.
Shouldn’t the drawer fronts be flush with the cabinet front?
After noticing this issue, I began disassembling the cabinet for cleaning, and fine-tuning the drawer slides.
That’s when I noticed that the side/interior metal panels that support the cabinet’s drawer rails appear to be about 5/8” out of position.
Shouldn’t these metal panels **** up close to the cabinet’s front panel?
It appears that these panels were originally spot welded into place, but the spot welds have failed.
I’m sure I can devise a means to pull these panels closer to the front… IF they are supposed to **** up closer.
If the drawers are SUPPOSED to be recessed from the front panel, then I suppose there is no problem. But, after seeing the pictures, why is there a 5/8” thick vertical strip of RUST on the side panels, which butts up to a very clear Kennedy brown paint line?!?
Is this a common problem?
