I looked all over the internet and could find very little information on these Kennedy Versa-bench's. I picked this up today. It is a beast! It has full ball bearing slides, and an 1/8" steel top plate. The entire box is made of 11 gauge steel. Plans are to clean it up and use it for now, and then when i get 220v and can use my air compressor again, i'll repaint it.

Does anyone know how to remove the drawer from this type of slide? The top 2 drawers had the plastic lever style removal, but i can't figure out how these ones release the drawer.

There is a tab inside the rail that prevent it coming out.

From the side looking at the track, open the drawer fully, then close it about an inch. In the holes in the track you will see a spring tab. Depress the tab with a screw driver and the drawer will then come out.

I got it figured out. The part of the slide that mounts to the drawer does not come out of the rest of the slide. You actually have to remove the drawer from the entire slide. Push the tensioner button and pull up and back.

I'm pretty sure that was made back when single piece slides were the norm. Maybe give kennedy a call or email with picture, but I'm guessing late 80's up to mid 90's. I can't recall seeing that style before. Very nice box/bench though. Do you find the doors to be a nuisance being so long?

I did send them an email asking them, but haven't heard back. It might be that old, but they still sell this exact model today. The model is 4810R (R is for red) The top two drawer slides are 2 piece design, but i think the others are the one piece design to handle the weight, as they are larger drawers and heavy duty 3 section slides. The doors can be folded all the way back to sit flush against against the side of the cabinet. or they can be removed in about 10 seconds if you don't want them on. I think i'm going to make some similar doors, but with only a few inch overlap, that way i can still lock the drawers in place, but still be able to fit it in a tight spot.

Killer bench.

So, spill the goods? What'd you give for it?

And do those doors fully open and lay flush with the sides? I hope so, b/c opening and closing doors everytime (at your own house anyways) would drive me off a frikin cliff.

I've got a couple boxes from that line. Mine are a little rough but they are built to last

I gave $300 for it. I'd say a pretty killer deal. Guy I got it from was really nice. He got it from his old job when they closed up shop. Not sure if you missed my previous post, but yes the doors will sit flat against the sides of the box. They only stick out a little because of the handles. Or you can remove the doors entirely with out any tools.
