I have a Duralast 3/8 torque wrench that I left on 800 inch pounds for somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 years. I tested it against my cousin's Snapon digital 1/2 at 50 lb/ft, and the Duralast was off by two pound.

On the other side of the spectrum, I have a .308 savage that I left loaded from Feb-May, and it jammed the first time I fired it again:headscrat

While not a peer-reviewed scientific journal article, Norbar did some testing and found no difference in storage settings (a bit short of 15 years, though):

Hey good find! Nice to have a scientific anecdote backing this up. Im never returning anything to lowest setting again, no time to lose in the shop plus I have a cal cube, a cheap one maybe but it came with certification and as I had posted Ive played around with it alot and it seems bang on.
