I am thinking about a new torpedo Heater for my outbuilding. I have ended up with a used few torpedo heaters over the years but they are at the point where I am fighting little problems all the time or they are just rotting out.

What brands has everyone been having good luck with recently?

I currently have a 50k BTU which can really do much below 30 degree. And a 155k unit that can bring the temp up fairly quick in my 28x40x10 unisulated outbuilding. I am leaning towards the 80-135k BTU range.

My old 125k btu multifuel Green is still doing fine. (Old as in 30 years plus) Only ever run kerosene in it. Change out the filters every few years. Can heat up a 3 stall garage very quickly.

I have a lb white trademan and its been a good heater...

I would highly recommend getting one with a thermostat so you can set it to a particular temperature and it will keep it there

I bought a Master 80k kerosene/diesel/etc. torpedo heater at TSC a while ago for use during construction of my shop as it got colder. Obviously no long term experience with it yet, but it's running perfectly fine, no smoke/smell really, just a tad loud. Caught it on sale for around $150 I think. Seems to be well built.

I run a Remington propane torpedo heater. Currently I have 4 20lb tanks in rotation, might upgrade to a 100lb tank if I can find a decent cheap used one.

A word of warning with kerosene/diesel units, make sure to have proper ventilation and watch what you use around them. Years ago I used to work in an old neighbors body shop. We had a kerosene heater going. I was stripping down a 56 Ford truck cab with aircraft paint stripper. About a half hour later, I notice a blue haze throughout the shop. The fumes from the stripper reacted with the exhaust from the heater. Luckily we were ok and shut the heater down and opened every door and window for a while.

Unless you can buy Kerosene at the pump cheap. I would definitely go with a diesel heater. Diesel is so much easier to get and reasonably priced. Some guys can get cheap kero, just not where I am..
And I would AVOID the ones Tractor Supply sells. Bought one and it leaked at the tank seam. Did some research and its a common issue.
