Here's an idea. Go to your local appliance store and get a few refrigerator boxes, paint them the color you're going to paint the other walls and tape/tack them up in place to see how you like it. Then flip them around and try the other style.

Yes, the old roof line will be inside, but I am going to block off the area above with drywall. What is below though will stay. I was thinking about cedar siding and keeping the vinyl soffit so it still looks like it's outside, but then I was thinking about just drywalling the complete area. I could keep my toolbox there, but I was also thinking about a bar with a TV behind it. So many options, so little time. LOL!!!!

Trusses SHOULD be here Monday, but Craig also has another job going on about 20 miles north of me. He had to pour curbs for a large parking lot for a factory. The quicker he gets that done, the quicker he gets paid. All he has left is to strip the forms off, and backfill some dirt. I may just tell him to go ahead and do that to get that finished up, then he can devote his time down here. If he gets that done on Tuesday, then trusses would be Wednesday or Thursday for setting them.

I know that he has been trying to work both jobs with the weather permitting, and I know that a factory really doesn't like to wait. Plus I told Craig that if he has other quick paying jobs to go ahead and knock them out. Ashton (the neighbors son) and I can do some things, plus I also have a few parts I need to work on for a fellow member, so that takes a day or so right there. And I have some dirt to move and have Craigs skidloader, so I can get that knocked out at my pace.

We are going to strip the roof tomorrow though and get that ready, plus we still have to build the wall back to the existing roof, then we have to build our rafters to tie things together. So if we don't get the rafters set, we still have a little to do first.

I guess I might have answered your question by bouncing all over the place? I'm multi-tasking right at the moment so I'm a little scatter-brained with my answers.

I'm not too concerned about the color(s) as I know I AM GOING TO GO WITH CORRUGATED METAL BELOW, AND I MAY GO WITH THE COLOR OF MY EXISTING GARAGE ON TOP (damn cap lock) but I am going to go with a white smooth ceiling in the new section. I just didn't know how I wanted to do the front wall, whether to drywall it, or put cedar siding on it. The rest of the garage I have figured out.

Kevin: if you do decide to go the sheet rock or plywood and take off the siding I've used these type of shelving hangers that work great. i use plywood or HD has some formica 4 foot x 12 inch shelving if you want a smooth finish. we can never have enough storage for supplies or nick nacks so just a thought.

I've never used the crossbar piece in the picture because i'm always mounting to studs, but didn't even know that was an option if the studs are not in the right spot.

sounds like you are a great guy to work for and maybe your helper (contractor) can get more of that business you say is available in your area so he can get his finances back in order and his machines either replaced or fixed so they don't break down as often.

Build it how you want, but personally I don't like the look of cedar siding on the inside. To me it makes the new garage look like an addition that someone didn't care enough about to finish on the inside and allow it to blend in. On the other hand, if you could make it into an accent wall, maybe decorate it to look like the outside of an old gas station or something that would be very cool. Cool metal signs, maybe a neon too.

First, sorry for the double post. That's kind of what I was getting at. Paint the one side so it mimic the the "normal" wall color you want. I'd use the printed side for that. On the inside part, make a stencil to look like the outline of shingles and spray paint them on the cardboard.

Believe me, I have stood out here many times getting ahead of myself Actually, there is not a lot left to do as far as the contractor (Craig) will be involved in. Once the shingles are on, and the siding is on, Craig will be done....well except for pouring the sidewalk and apron. The garage doors is on me to get installed, along with everything else on the inside. This week or next, I have to get my siding ordered, then momma and I have to get it all stained and stacked. It's slowly getting there. I'm be4 glad to get the outside completed and the lawn back in order, and the inside can be a Fall project where I can take my time to get it done.

Kevin, this is what I did on the back of my garage when I added the shed. The new roof was higher than the old roof creating an area that is not really useable but it's out of the way.



You can see some fuel jugs and a few other things. Back behind them is my extra shingles and tar paper. Stuff that I shouldn't (hopefully) for a long time.

Zeke....the existing doors stay where they are at. That way I can heat one section or the other section without heating it all in the winter.

Kevin, that looks sharp. It's so clean it looks like the lathe is in bar.
You were discussing the electric in the new section, I notice the surface mounted conduit in this photo and I think it looks fine and gives you the flexibility to adjust your equipment.

trusses has been put off twice now. The truss company lost a driver. Now whether he passed away, or whether they can't find him, I don't know. So Monday was off and supposed to get them Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon they call and say they will be here first thing this morning. To me, this is first thing, and they aren't here yet. So hopefully they will be here shortly.

Monday though, in all of the 88 degree heat, the roof was stripped and felt papered and ice guard put down. Now I need to go find some shingles.

We'll get this garage up a stick at a time and one or two days a week I guess

The trusses came this morning. No pics of the roof yet. As far as hydrating......other than Monday, it has rained for two days now and it's planning on raining for the next 7 days. Craig's coming down tomorrow morning if per chance it is not raining for a few hours until it decides to rain again. We're going to try and get the trusses on the bumpout at least and get it sheeted. The bumpout should go fairly quick, or at least I hope it does seeing that it is only 7' deep. The overhang should be a piece of cake since all we have to make is the ladder, and the sheeting is 8'.

The weatherman says it's supposed to be less chance of rain this afternoon, but it is drizzling right now. Saturday is supposed to be decent, but then nothing but rain before and after that. So that means Saturday will have to be mow day unless I decide to let it go another week and get the baler out

And to top it off, the mosquitoes decided that this is now their type of weather. Standing out the other evening when we got back from N.Carolina, I think I lost about a pint of blood. The mosquitoes were so loaded up with blood they sounded like 5:00 Charlie taking back off.

The neighbors son bought his mom a car for her retirement as a surprise. She didn't know him and I were going down to get it. A 1998 BMW z3 M Series roadster. It was down in Raleigh N. Carolina.
