Hey guys. I looked through the toolbox thread, and the only one i've seen, was a factory option on a Lista.

Reason i post this is, I hate keys! It's one reason i drive a ford, i love the keypad on the door. I just throw my keys under the seat and lock the door. I can work all day without checking my pocket if my keys have fallen out.

Anyways, here's a couple units i've been thinking about. What do you guys think?

That is a cool idea. I lock my home box for security but mainly to keep my kids out of it. I found that having a second key ring was more bother than it was worth. So, I end up carrying my toolbox keys around with me all the time even through I only open it up a few times a week.

Really interesting idea. I wonder how much mod work is involved in installing one of these? I'm not sure that I'm ready yet to drill a hole in my 1033

Hmmmm My box has three bays with a locker so I would need three of them. Plus the locker that makes four. Because I am that guy I would need four different codes....

Sounds like a lot of work for me....

I was actually kicking around a similar idea, but I was thinking of rigging a Viper alarm with keyless entry into my box. More of a fun project/gee whiz factor than anything. Only problem is the door lock actuators are made to work with rods attached to car door locks, I'm not sure they could be made to work with the lock cylinders in a tool box. One of these pads may be the "key" to making it work.

Beyond that, here's what I was thinking: DIY 12v lithium battery with charger, plugged in overnight but will still operate if I want to roll the box around during the day or if someone unplugs it; piezo siren instead of the standard car alarm siren; and magnetic switches on the drawers (bottom chest) and lid (top chest) as triggers. I was trying to think of a way to get a door lock actuator working while keeping the lock cylinders so my keys will still work, but I bet I could figure out a way to use one of these number pads instead. Shouldn't be hard to get the alarm to lock/unlock one of these pads, and I might be able to make the pad disarm the alarm upon entering the correct code too. If I end up doing it I'll be sure to post some pics.

Both craftsman and SO offered keyless entry for their boxes, it used a key fob like a car. For sears, it was their typical gimmick, but it was at leasted used on their boxes. SO offered it as an accessorie. Don't know if they still have it any more.
